Removal & Installation



2001 Models
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire/wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper arm-to-body through bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper arm through bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper arm.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following steps:

    Lubricate the body side bushing with silicone grease.
     
    Tighten the arm-to-body flange bolts to 29 ft lbs. (39 Nm)
     
    Tighten the upper arm through bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     
    Tighten the lug nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)

2002-06 Models
  1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Place a floor jack under the trailing arm, and support the suspension.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel sensor harness bracket from the upper arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the flange bolts (A), and remove the upper arm (B).

To install:

  1. Install the upper arm in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

    First install all the suspension components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then place a jack under the trailing arm, and raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening the bolts and nuts to the specified torque values.
     
    Tighten all the mounting hardware to the specified torque values. The flange bolts should be torqued to 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm).
     
    Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surface of the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel.
     
    Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary
