Adjustment



The wheel bearings are not adjustable.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section. Also see the IMA system disabling before proceeding with any procedure.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Brake hose bracket
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Spindle nut
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Lower ball joint
     
    Steering knuckle
     

  4.  
  5. Press the hub out of the knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Press the inner bearing race out of the hub.
  8.  
  9. Remove the splash guard.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bearing unit from the knuckle.

To install:


NOTE
Use new ball joint nuts, split pins, snapring and a new spindle nut for assembly.

  1. Install the hub unit and tighten the bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the splash guard.
  4.  
  5. Press the bearing unit into the hub.
  6.  
  7. Install the splash guard.
  8.  
  9. Press the hub into the bearing.
  10.  
  11. Install or connect the following:

    Steering knuckle. Tighten the knuckle-to-damper unit bolts to 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm)
     
    Lower ball joint. Tighten the nut 40-47 ft. lbs. (54-64 Nm).
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Brake caliper and rotor. Tighten the caliper bracket bolts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
     
    Brake hose bracket
     
    Spindle nut. Tighten the nut to 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm).
     
    Front wheel

  13. Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.
