Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section. Also see the IMA system disabling before proceeding with any procedure.
  2.  
  3. Drain the transaxle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Front wheels
     
    Spindle nut
     
    Stabilizer link
     
    Brake hose clamp
     
    Wheel speed sensor clamp
     

  6.  
  7. Turn the front knuckle outward.
  8.  
  9. Tap the halfshaft inward with a plastic hammer.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower ball joint.
  12.  
  13. Remove the inboard joint heat shield.
  14.  
  15. Pry the inboard joint from the transaxle or bearing support.
  16.  
  17. Pull the axle shaft straight out to avoid damaging the oil seal.
  18.  

To install:


NOTE
Use new circlips, split pins and self-locking nuts for assembly.

  1. Install the new circlip into the circlip groove of the driveshaft
  2.  
  3. Install the inner CV-joint to the transaxle or bearing support until the circlip locks in the retaining groove.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Inboard joint heat cover
     
    Outboard joint into the front hub
     
    Lower ball joint. Tighten the nut to 40-47 ft. lbs. (54-64 Nm).
     
    Wheel speed sensor clamp
     
    Brake hose clamp
     
    Stabilizer link
     
    Axle shaft nut. Tighten the nut to 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm).
     
    Front wheels
     
    Battery cables
     

  6.  
  7. Fill the transaxle to the correct level and check for leaks.
  8.

  7. Turn the front knuckle outward.

  9. Tap the halfshaft inward with a plastic hammer.

  11. Remove the lower ball joint.
  12.  
  13. Remove the inboard joint heat shield.
  14.  
  15. Pry the inboard joint from the transaxle or bearing support.
  16.  
  17. Pull the axle shaft straight out to avoid damaging the oil seal.
