Inspection

Print

  1. Connect the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) to the Data Link Connector (DLC) and check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC-s). If any DTC-s are present, diagnose and repair the cause.
  2.
  3. Start the engine and hold it at 3000 rpm until the cooling fan comes on, then return to idle.
  4.
  5. Place the HDS tester in the SCS mode.
  6.
  7. Connect a timing light to the no. 1 ignition coil wire.
  8.
  9. With all accessories off, check the ignition timing on the oil pump pointer at the crankshaft pulley. Timing should be 10-14 degrees BTDC.
  10.
  11. If the timing is off, check the cam timing. If the cam timing is okay, check the Electronic Control Module (ECM) for the latest software and update, or substitute a known good ECM and check the timing again.
  12.
  13. If the timing is okay with a substitute ECM, replace the original ECM.
  14.
