Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section. Also see the IMA system disabling before proceeding with any procedure.

    Negative battery cable
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Valve cover
     
    Camshaft sprocket
     
    Rocker arms and shaft
     

  4.  


NOTE
Keep all valvetrain components in order for assembly.

  1. Remove the camshaft holder bolts in reverse of the tightening sequence.
  2.  
  3. Remove the camshaft.
  4.  

To install:

Camshafts. Tighten the holder bolts in sequence to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).

Negative battery cable
 

  1. Adjust the valve clearance.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the battery switch OFF and measure the voltage before proceeding.
  4.  
  5. Disconnecting the negative battery cable will clear the radio-s preset buttons. Write down the radio frequencies.
  6.  
  7. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  8.  
  9. Drain the cooling system.
  10.  
  11. Drain the engine oil.
  12.  
  13. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable first then the positive battery cable
     
    Engine cover
     
    Breather pipe
     
    Brake booster vacuum hose bracket
     
    Air cleaner housing
     
    Throttle cover
     
    Throttle cable
     
    Brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) control canister hose
     
    Water bypass hoses
     
    Vacuum hose
     
    Fuel feed and return hoses
     
    Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose and vacuum hose
     
    Heater hoses
     
    Engine wire harness connectors
     
    Intake manifold
     
    Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) plate
     
    Upper radiator hose and connecting pipe
     
    Catalytic converter
     
    Dipstick
     
    Cylinder head cover
     
    Timing chain auto tensioner
     
    Cylinder head plug
     
    Engine mount bracket mounting bolt
     
    Cylinder head
     
    Rocker arm assembly
     
    Camshaft holders
     
    Camshaft

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Camshaft and holders to the cylinder head and torque the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    Rocker arm assembly to the camshaft and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Cylinder head with a new gasket.Torque the bolts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm) and an additional 90 degrees. Torque the 6mm bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
     
    Camshaft sprocket to the cylinder head
     
    Timing chain to the camshaft sprocket
     
    Camshaft sprocket to the camshaft
     

  2.  
  3. Turn the camshaft sprocket counterclockwise to relieve any timing chain free play. Check the alignment of the Top Dead Center (TDC) mark (A) on the camshaft sprocket with the cylinder head.

    Timing chain to the sprocket and torque the sprocket bolt to 41 ft. lbs. (61 Nm)
     
    New cylinder head plug
     
    Timing chain auto tensioner and torque the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    Cylinder head cover
     
    Dipstick
     
    Catalytic converter
     
    Heater hoses
     
    Upper radiator hose and connecting pipe and torque the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    EGR plate
     
    Intake manifold and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    PCV and vacuum hoses
     
    Fuel feed and return hoses
     
    Brake booster vacuum hose
     
    EVAP control canister hose
     
    Water bypass hose
     
    Vacuum hose
     
    Air cleaner housing
     
    Throttle cable and adjust if necessary
     
    Engine cover
     
    Both battery cables
     

  4.  
  5. Wait 30 minutes and fill the engine with clean oil.
  6.  
  7. Fill the cooling system.
  8.  
  9. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Reset the radio code.
  12.

    Camshaft sprocket
     
    Rocker arms and shaft
     

  4.  
  5. Remove the camshaft holder bolts in reverse of the tightening sequence.
  6.  
  7. Remove the camshaft.
  8.  

To install:
