Fig. Install the seal with the proper tool

  1. Lubricate the lip of the seal with clean engine oil.
  3. Install a new oil seal with Driver Tool 07746-0030100 until it bottoms out against the oil pump
  5. Set the crankshaft sprocket so that the No. 1 piston is at Top dead Center (TDC).
  7. Align the TDC mark (A) on the crankshaft pulser plate with the pointer (B) on the cylinder block.
  9. Install or connect the following:
Make certain that the crankshaft pulley is at TDC.

Timing chain with the colored piece aligned with the punch mark on the crankshaft sprocket
Dowel pins and align the inner rotor with the crankshaft
    Oil pump with new O-rings
Oil screen with a new gasket
Oil pan with new gaskets and O-rings. Torque the 6mm bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm) and the 8mm bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
Crankshaft pulley. Torque the bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) and an additional 90 degrees.
Cylinder head with a new gasket. Torque the bolts, in sequence, to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm) and an additional 90 degrees. Torque the two 6mm bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).

Camshaft sprocket to the cylinder head
Timing chain on the camshaft sprocket with the punch mark aligned with the colored link
    Camshaft sprocket on the camshaft

  11. Turn the camshaft sprocket counterclockwise to relieve any timing chain free play.
  13. Hold the camshaft with an open end wrench and torque the camshaft mounting bolt to 41 ft. lbs. (56 Nm).
  15. Install a new cylinder head plug.
  17. Press the rod to pump out any oil out of the timing chain auto tensioner.
  19. Install or connect the following:

Cylinder head cover and torque the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
    Engine oil cooler bypass hoses
Idler pulley bracket mounting bolt and torque to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
    Water pump
    Engine assembly

  21. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  23. Fill the cooling system.
