Idle Speed & Mixture Adjustments




NOTE
Leave the idle air control (IAC) valve connected.

Before checking the idle speed, check these items:



The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has not been reported on.
 
Ignition timing
 
Spark plugs
 
Air cleaner
 
PCV system
 

  1. Pull the parking brake lever up. Start the engine, and make sure the headlights are off.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve 2P connector.
  4.  
  5. Connect the HDS, or equivalent OBD-II compliant scan tool, to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the dashboard. On 2000 models, the DLC is located under the passenger-s side of the dashboard. On 2001-06 models, the DLC is located under the driver-s side of the dashboard.

  7. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
  8.  
  9. Check the idle speed without load conditions: headlights, blower fan, radiator fan, and air conditioner off. The idle speed should as follows:
    1. M/T: 850-950 rpm
    2.  
    3. CVT (A/T): 850-950 rpm (in Park or Neutral)
