Intermediate Shaft

Removal & Installation



  1. Drain the automatic transmission fluid Reinstall the drain plug, using a new washer.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right driveshaft.

  5. Remove the rear warm-up three-way catalytic converter (WU-TWC) bracket (B) and heat shield (A).

  7. Remove the flange bolt (A) and two dowel bolts (B).

    Fig. Remove the intermediate shaft (A) from the differential. Hold the intermediate shaft horizontally until it is clear of the differential to prevent damage to the differential oil seal (B)

  9. Remove the intermediate shaft (A) from the differential. Hold the intermediate shaft horizontally until it is clear of the differential to prevent damage to the differential oil seal (B).
  10.  

To install:

  1. Use brake cleaner to thoroughly clean the areas where the intermediate shaft (A) contacts the transmission (differential), and dry them with compressed air. Do not wash the rubber parts with solvent. Insert the intermediate shaft assembly into the differential. Hold the intermediate shaft horizontally to prevent damage to the differential oil seal (B).

  3. Install the flange bolt (A) and two dowel bolts (B).
  4.  
  5. Install the heat shield and rear warm-up three-way catalytic converter (WU-TWC) bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install the right driveshaft.
  8.  
  9. Refill the automatic transmission with the recommended transmission fluid.
