Removal & Installation



2001-04 Models
With Climate Control

WARNING
When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage. Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts.

  1. Remove the instrument panel with the climate control panel, as follows:
    1. Remove the steering column covers.
    2.  
    3. Carefully detach the clips, then remove the center panel (A). Disconnect the heater control panel connectors (B) or climate control unit connectors, rear A/C control dial (C) (for some models) and interior light switch connector (D). With navigation system, disconnect the hazard warning switch connector, rear A/C control dial, and interior light switch connector. For '03-04 models: Disconnect the passenger's airbag off indicator connector.

  3. Remove the self-tapping screws and the climate control panel (A) from the instrument panel (B).
  4.  

To install: Install the control panel in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the climate control panel to see whether it works properly.

  1. Install the panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
    2.  
    3. Push the clips into place securely.
    4.

  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4.  

Without Climate Control

WARNING
When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage. Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center panel with the heater control panel, as follows:
    1. Gently pull out on the driver's switch panel (A) to release the right clips (B), then detach the remaining clips (C). If equipped, disconnect the cruise control main switch connector (D), TCS switch connector (E), power mirror switch connector (F) and power sliding door switch connector (G), then remove the panel.

      Fig. Gently pull out on the driver's switch panel (A) to release the right clips (B), then detach the remaining clips (C). If equipped, disconnect the cruise control main switch connector (D), TCS switch connector (E), power mirror switch connector (F) and power sliding door switch connector (G), then remove the panel

  5. Remove the self-tapping screws and the heater control panel from the center panel.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the control panel in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the control panel controls to see whether it works properly.
  2.  
  3. Install the center panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Make sure each connector is plugged in properly (if equipped).
    2.  
    3. Push the clips into place securely.
    4.

  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  

2005-06 Models

NOTE
This procedure requires the use of KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014, or equivalent trim tool set.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center panel, as follows:
    WARNING
    Be very careful not to scratch the dashboard and related parts. Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components. Be very careful not to bend the trim.

    1. Open the upper glove box.
    2.  
    3. Gently pry up on the dashboard center panel (A) to release the clips.

    5. Pry up on the outside edge of the dashboard center panel (A) very carefully to detach the clips (B, C), then remove the panel.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the hazard warning switch/passenger's airbag off indicator connector (D), climate control unit connector (E), and interior lights switch connector (F).

    9. If necessary, remove the screws securing the driver's center vent, then separate it from the dashboard center panel.
    10.

  5. Remove the self-tapping screws and the climate control panel (A).
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the control panel in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the various functions to see whether works properly.
  2.  
  3. Install the center panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Make sure all connectors are plugged in properly.
    2.  
    3. Replace any damaged clips.
    4.  
    5. Push the clips and hooks into place securely.
    6.

  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.
