Door Lock Motor



Removal & Installation
2001-04 Models

NOTE
This procedure covers the replacement of the door lock actuator (motor) and requires the use of Trim pad remover, Snap-on A177A, or equivalent, commercially available trim pad removal tool.

  1. Remove the mirror mount cover, as follows:
    1. Lower the door glass fully.
    2.  
    3. Carefully pry out the mirror mount cover by hand.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner handle, as follows, being careful not to scratch the door panel:
    1. Pry out the cap and remove the screw.
    2.  
    3. Pull the inner handle forward and out halfway.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the inner handle rod and power door lock switch connector (if equipped).

  7. Detach the clips and hooks, then remove the speaker grille. Remove the screws.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pull pocket panel (A), as follows, being careful not to scratch the door panel:
    1. Pry out the cap and remove the screw.
    2.  
    3. Release the hook and detach the power window switch connectors.
    4.  

  10.  
  11. Release the clips that hold the door panel (A) with a commercially available trim pad remover (B), then remove the door panel by pulling it upward. Disconnect the speaker connector (C).
  12.  
  13. On 2002-04 models equipped with seat heaters, disconnect the seat heater switch subharness connector.
    NOTE
    Remove the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it.

  15. Detach the door lock actuator connector, remove the retainers, then remove the door lock actuator.

To install:

  1. Install the door lock actuator and attach the connector.
  2.  
  3. Install the door panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Replace any damaged clips.
    2.  
    3. Push the clips into place securely.
    4.  
    5. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the inner handle rod is connected properly.
    6.

  5. For 2003-04 models, reset the power window control unit, as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch off, then back ON (II).
    2.  
    3. Move the driver's window all the way down by holding the driver's switch to the AUTO DOWN position; when the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver's window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for 2 seconds.
    4.  
    5. Move the driver's window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver's switch to the AUTO UP position; when the window reaches the top, hold the driver's window switch in the AUTO UP position for 2 seconds.
    6.  
    7. If the window does not work in AUTO, reset the power window control unit according to the above procedures again.
    8.

  7. On 2002-04 models, if equipped with seat heaters, check for proper operation.
  8.  
  9. Check the window and power door lock operations.
  10.

This procedure covers the replacement of the door lock switch (control panel) and requires the use of Trim pad remover, Snap-on A177A, or equivalent, commercially available trim pad removal tool.

  1. Remove the mirror mount cover, as follows:
    1. Lower the door glass fully.

  7. Remove the two screws, then remove the door lock switch.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the door lock switch and secure with the two screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the inner handle in the reverse of the removal procedure. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the inner handle rod is connected properly.
  4.  
  5. For 2003-04 models, reset the power window control unit, as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch off, then back ON (II).
    2.  
    3. Move the driver's window all the way down by holding the driver's switch to the AUTO DOWN position; when the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver's window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for 2 seconds.
    4.  
    5. Move the driver's window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver's switch to the AUTO UP position; when the window reaches the top, hold the driver's window switch in the AUTO UP position for 2 seconds.
    6.  
    7. If the window does not work in AUTO, reset the power window control unit according to the above procedures again.
    8.

  7. Check the window and power door lock operations.

2005-06 Models

NOTE
This procedure covers the replacement of the door lock actuator (motor) and requires the use of Trim pad remover, Snap-on A177A, or equivalent, commercially available trim pad removal tool.


NOTE
This procedure covers the replacement of the door lock switch (control panel) and requires the use of KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 and Trim pad remover, Snap-on A177A, or equivalent, commercially available trim removal tools.


NOTE
Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.

  1. Lower the glass fully.
  2.  
  3. Using the appropriate trim tool, pry out on the rear portion of the cover (A) to release the hooks (B, C), then remove the cover and the screws securing the inner handle (D).

  5. Remove the power window switch panel (A), as follows:
    1. Using the appropriate trim tool pry up on the rear edge of the switch panel tape to release the rear clip.
    2.  
    3. Pull out along the edge of the panel to release the hooks (B) and front clip.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the power mirror switch connector (C) (driver's) and the power window switch connector (D).

  7. Remove the door panel (A) with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it, as follows:
    1. Remove the screws (B).
    2.  
    3. Use a commercially available trim pad remover (C) to detach the clips (D).
    4.  
    5. Starting at the rear, pull the door panel upward, then release the lock knob (E).
      WARNING
      To prevent damaging the components inside the door, don-t use excessive force when raising the panel.

  9. Disconnect the inner handle cable from the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the courtesy light bulb connector and the driving position memory switch connector, then remove the door panel. Take care not to bend the cable.
  12.  
  13. If necessary, remove the screws securing the inner handle, then remove the handle from the door panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the retainers, then remove the door lock switch.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the door lock switch and secure with the retainers.
  2.  
  3. Install the door panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Replace any damaged clips.
    2.  
    3. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and that the cable and the bulb socket are connected properly.
    4.  
    5. Make sure the window and power door lock operate properly.
    6.

  5. For the driver-s side, perform the power window control unit reset procedure, as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
    2.  
    3. Move the driver's window all the way down by using the driver's window DOWN switch.
    4.  
    5. Open the driver's door.
      NOTE
      Step d-g. must be done within 5 seconds of each other.

    6.  
    7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    8.  
    9. Push and hold the driver's window DOWN switch.
    10.  
    11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
    12.  
    13. Release the driver's window DOWN switch.
    14.  
    15. Repeat d.-g. three more times.
    16.  
    17. Wait 1 second.
    18.  
    19. Confirm that AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If AUTO UP and DOWN work, go back to step a.
    20.  
    21. Move the driver's window all the way down by using the driver's window DOWN switch.
    22.  
    23. Pull up and hold the driver's window UP switch until the window reaches the fully closed position, then continue to hold the switch for 1 second.
    24.  
    25. Confirm that the power window control unit is reset by using the driver's window AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN function.
    26.  
    27. If the window still does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure several times, paying close attention to the 5 second time limit between steps.
