2003-04 Models



  1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Cover the crankshaft pulley with several shop towels to protect if from spilled power steering fluid.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (A) and pump outlet hose (B) from the pump (C), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once.
  8.  
  9. Remove the belt (D) by loosening the pump adjusting nut (E), then remove pump mounting bolt (F), nut (G) and pump. Do not turn the steering wheel with pump removed.

To install:

  1. Connect the pump outlet hose and inlet hose to the pump. Tighten the pump fittings securely.
  2.  
  3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolt and nut.
  4.  
  5. Install the pump belt on the pulley. Make sure that the power steering belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
    WARNING
    Do not get the power steering fluid or grease on the belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

  7. Adjust the pump belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  8.  
  9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line.

2005 Models



  1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley.
  6.  
  7. Cover the auto-tensioner, alternator, and A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (B) and pump outlet hose (C) from the pump (D), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pump mounting bolts (E).
  10.  
  11. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.

To install:

  1. Connect the pump inlet hose and pump outlet hose onto the new pump with new O-ring (F).
  2.  
  3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts, then tighten the pump fittings securely.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specifications shown in the accompanying illustration.
  6.  
  7. Install the drive belt. Make sure that the belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
    WARNING
    Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the auto-tensioner, alternator, A/C compressor, and drive belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

  9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line.
