1.7L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  4.  

To install:



Alternator and tighten the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm)
 
4P connector and battery terminal wire. Tighten the battery terminal wire nut to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
 
Power steering pump
 
Accessory drive belts
 
Negative battery cable
 

2.0L Engines

  4.  

To install:



Alternator and tighten the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm)
 
4P connector and battery terminal wire. Tighten the battery terminal wire nut to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).

  1. Alternator installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

  3. Connect the positive battery cable, then the negative battery cable. Enter the radio security code and station presets.

WARNING
Be sure to adjust the alternator belt to the proper tension or alternator bearing failure may occur.

Accord
2.3L Engine

  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable, then the positive
     
    4P connector and battery terminal wire from the alternator
     
    Adjusting bolt, locknut and the mounting bolt
     
    Alternator belt
     
    Alternator from the bracket
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

  3. Adjust the alternator belt tension.
  4.

To install:



Alternator and 3 mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

Auto-tensioner
 
Drive belt
 
Positive, then negative battery cables
 

  1. Enter the security code and radio presets.
  2.  
  3. Reprogram the power window control unit as follows.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch ON. Lower the window, all the way down. Open the driver-s side door.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Push and hold the drivers window DOWN switch. Turn the ignition switch ON. Release the driver-s window DOWN switch. This must be done within five seconds.
  8.  
  9. Repeat the above step three more times. Wait one second.
  10.  
  11. Confirm that the AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If they work repeat the procedure, paying close attention to the five second time limit
  12.  
  13. Move the driver-s window all the way down by holding the drivers window DOWN switch to the AUTO DOWN position.
  14.  
  15. Pull up and hold the driver-s window UP switch to the AUTO UP position until the window reaches the fully closed position. Hold the switch for one second.
  16.  
  17. Confirm that the power window master switch has been reset by using the driver-s window AUTO UP and DOWN function.
  18.  
  19. If the AUTO UP and DOWN feature is still not working, repeat the complete procedure, paying close attention to the five second time limit.
  20.  

3.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.

  3. Note the radio security code and the radio presets.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable, then the positive
     
    Alternator belt tension by pulling back on the adjuster and then remove the belt
     
    Condenser fan motor connector from the shroud
     
    Condenser fan assembly
     
    Four prong connector from the rear of the alternator
     
    Alternator mounting bolts
     
    Wiring harness clamp
     
    Alternator assembly

  1. Alternator installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

  5. On 2003-06 vehicles, reprogram the power window control unit as follows.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch ON. Lower the window, all the way down. Open the driver-s side door.
  8.  
  9. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Push and hold the drivers window DOWN switch. Turn the ignition switch ON. Release the driver-s window DOWN switch. This must be done within five seconds.
  10.  
  11. Repeat the above step three more times. Wait one second.
  12.  
  13. Confirm that the AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If they work repeat the procedure, paying close attention to the five second time limit
  14.  
  15. Move the driver-s window all the way down by holding the drivers window DOWN switch to the AUTO DOWN position.
  16.  
  17. Pull up and hold the driver-s window UP switch to the AUTO UP position until the window reaches the fully closed position. Hold the switch for one second.
  18.  
  19. Confirm that the power window master switch has been reset by using the driver-s window AUTO UP and DOWN function.
  20.  
  21. If the AUTO UP and DOWN feature is still not working, repeat the complete procedure, paying close attention to the five second time limit.

  23. Set the clock.

  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable

    Power steering pump
     
    4P connector and battery terminal wire
     
    Alternator bolts
     
    Alternator
     

  4.  

To install:



Alternator and tighten the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm)
 
4P connector and battery terminal wire. Tighten the battery terminal wire nut to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).

  1. Reprogram the ECM/PCM engine idle characteristics. Be sure all electrical items are OFF.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine. Hold the idle speed at 3000 RPM-s in park or neutral until the radiator fan comes on or the temperature reached 194 degrees.
  4.  
  5. Let the engine idle for about five minutes with the throttle fully closed.
  6.  
  7. If the radiator fan comes on during the five minutes, do not count this toward the five minute programming time.
  8.  
  9. Set the clock.
  10.  

1.8L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable, then the positive
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    4P connector and battery terminal wire
     
    Alternator bolts
     
    Alternator
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Adjust the alternator belt tension.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable, then the positive cable.
  6.  
  7. Reprogram the power window control unit as follows.
  8.

    Right side headlight
     
    Reserve tank from its mounting bracket
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Alternator bolts
     
    Electrical connectors
     
    Alternator

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Adjust the alternator belt tension.
  4.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then the positive cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front grille cover. Disconnect the fan motor connector, hood switch connector. Remove the harness clamps.
  8.  
  9. Remove the reservoir hose, radiator cap mounting bolts and upper radiator brackets.
  10.  
  11. Remove the condenser mounting bolts. Remove the bulkhead.
  12.  
  13. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Disconnect the electrical connections. Remove the alternator from its mounting.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Adjust the alternator belt tension.
  4.  
  5. Reprogram the power window control unit as follows.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch ON. Lower the window, all the way down. Open the driver-s side door.
  8.
