Accord & Prelude
2001-02 Models
  1. Note the radio security code and station presets.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower engine splash shield.
  8.  
  9. Remove the engine accessory drive belts. For specific details, refer to the Engine Mechanical Section.
    NOTE
    Mark the direction of the accessory drive belt's rotation if it is to be reinstalled. If there is any doubt about the condition of a belt, or if it has been contaminated by oil, it should be replaced.

  11. Set the engine at Top Dead Center (TDC) for the No. 1 piston on the compression stroke. The crankshaft pulley white mark must be aligned with the mark on the lower timing cover. Once in this position, the engine must not be disturbed.
  12.  
  13. Hold the crankshaft pulley with Honda Tool Nos. 07MAB-PY3010A Holder Attachment and 07JAB-001020A Holder Handle or their equivalents and remove the crankshaft pulley bolt by turning it in a counterclockwise direction.
  14.  
  15. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

To install:

  1. Install the crankshaft pulley. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 181 ft. lbs. (245 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install and adjust the accessory drive belts.
  4.  
  5. Verify that all engine components that may have been removed have been reinstalled correctly.
  6.  
  7. Install the splash shield and lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Enter the security code for the radio.
  12.  

2003-06 2.4L Engines

NOTE
This procedure requires the use of the following special tools or their equivalents: Holder handle Holder handle 07JAB-001020A, 50mm Holder attachment 07NAB-001040A and 19mm Socket 07JAA-001020A.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Hold the pulley with holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt with a 19 mm socket (C) and breaker bar, then remove the crankshaft.

To install:

  1. Clean the crankshaft pulley (A), crankshaft (B), bolt (C), and washer (D). Lubricate as shown.

  3. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt, as follows: Do not use an impact wrench.
    1. Hold the pulley with the holder handle (A) and pulley holder attachment (B). Torque the bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm) with a torque wrench and a heavy duty 19 mm socket (C)
    2.  
    3. Mark the bolt head (D) and the crankshaft pulley (E) as shown, then tighten the bolt an additional 90°. The mark on the bolt head should line up with the mark on the crankshaft pulley.

  5. Install the drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Install the splash shield.

  9. Install the front wheels.
  10.  
  11. Carefully lower the vehicle.

2003-06 3.0L Engines

NOTE
This procedure requires the use of the following special tools or their equivalents: Holder handle Holder handle 07JAB-001020A, Offset 50mm Holder attachment 07MAB-PY3010A and 19mm Socket 07JAA-001020A.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Hold the pulley with the holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt with a heavy duty 19 mm socket (C) and breaker bar, then remove the crankshaft pulley.

To install:

  1. Clean the crankshaft pulleys (A), crankshaft (B), bolt (C), and washer (D). Lubricate with new engine oil as shown.

  3. Install the crankshaft pulley, and tighten the bolt, as follows. Do not use an impact wrench.
    1. Hold the pulley with the holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B), then tighten the bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm) with a torque wrench and 19 mm socket (C)
    2.  
    3. Mark (D) the bolt head and crankshaft pulley as shown, then tighten the bolt an additional 60 º (The mark on the bolt head should line up with the mark on the crankshaft pulley)

NOTE
This procedure requires the following special tools, or their equivalents: Holder handle 07JAB-001020B, Holder attachment, 50 mm, offset 07MAB-PY3010A, and 19mm Socket 07JAA-001020A.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left front tire/wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Hold the pulley with holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt with a heavy duty 19 mm socket (C) and breaker bar, then remove the crankshaft pulley.

To install:

  1. Clean the pulleys (A), guide plate (B), crankshaft (C), bolt (D), and washer (E). Lubricate with new engine oil as shown.

  3. Install the crankshaft pulley, and tighten the bolt to 14.5 ft. lbs. (19.6 Nm) as follows. Do not use an impact wrench.
    1. Hold the pulley with the holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the bolt with a torque wrench and 19 mm socket (C).
    4.  
    5. Tighten the bolt and additional 90°.

1.8L Engine

NOTE
This procedure requires the use of the following special tools or their equivalents: Holder handle 07JAB-001020A, Crankshaft pulley holder 070AB-RJA0100 and 19mm Socket 07JAA-001020A.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Hold the pulley with the holder handle (A) and holder (B).
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt with a heavy duty 19 mm socket (C) and breaker bar, then remove the crankshaft pulley.

To install:

  1. Clean the crankshaft pulley (A), crankshaft (B), bolt (C), and washer (D). Lubricate with new engine oil as shown:

  3. Install the crankshaft pulley, and hold the pulley with the handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
  4.  
  5. Tighten the bolt to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm) with a torque wrench and 19 mm socket (C). Do not use an impact wrench.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the pulley bolt an additional 90°.

  9. Install the drive belt.

  11. Install the right front wheel.

  13. Carefully lower the vehicle.

2.0L Engine

NOTE
This procedure requires the use of the following special tools or their equivalents: Holder handle Holder handle 07JAB-001020A, Crankshaft pulley holder 070AB-RJA0100, and 19mm Socket 07JAA-001020A.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Hold the pulley with holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt with a 19 mm socket (C) and breaker bar, then remove the crankshaft.

To install:

  1. Clean the crankshaft pulley (A), crankshaft (B), bolt (C), and washer (D). Lubricate as shown.

  3. Install the crankshaft pulley, and hold the pulley with holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
  4.  
  5. Tighten the bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm) with a torque wrench and 19 mm socket (C). Do not use an impact wrench.

  7. Tighten the pulley bolt an additional 90°.

This procedure requires the use of the following special tools, or their equivalents: Socket, 19 mm 07JAA-001020A, Holder handle 07JAB-001020B and Holder attachment, 50 mm 07NAB-001040A.

  1. Hold the pulley with holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
  2.  
  3. Remove the bolt with a heavy duty 19 mm socket (C) and breaker bar.

To install:

  1. Clean the bolt (A), washer (B), pulley (C), and crankshaft (D). Lubricate with new engine oil as shown.

  3. Install the crankshaft pulley, and tighten the bolt to 192 ft. lbs. (260 Nm), as follows. Do not use an impact wrench.
    1. Hold the pulley with the holder handle (A) and holder attachment (B).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the bolt with a torque wrench and heavy duty 19 mm socket (C).
