    Overhaul

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
    2.
    3. Compress the damper spring with a commercially available strut spring compressor according to the manufacturer-s instructions.
    4.
    5. Remove the self locking nut while holding the damper shaft with a hex wrench. Do not compress the spring more than necessary to remove the nut.
    6.
    7. Release the pressure from the strut spring compressor. Disassemble the damper assembly. Reassemble all parts, except the spring.
    8.
    9. Compress the damper assembly by hand and check for smooth operation thru full stroke, both compression and extension.
    10.
    11. The damper should extend smoothly and constantly when compression is released. If not, gas is leaking and the damper should be replaced.
    12.

    To assemble:

    1. Install all parts except the self locking nut onto the damper unit.
    2.
    3. Align the bottom of the spring and the stepped part of the lower spring seat. The hole in the upper spring seat and the arrow on the damper mounting base must point toward the knuckle mounting area.
    4.
    5. Install the damper assembly on a commercially available strut spring compressor.
    6.
    7. Compress the damper spring with the strut spring compressor. Install a new self locking nut on the damper shaft.
    8.
    9. Hold the damper shaft with a hex wrench and tighten the self locking nut.
    10.
