2001-02 Models

CAUTION
Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do not allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion.

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined earlier in this section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Detach the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the two fuel pressure regulator retaining bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel pressure regulator and the O-rings. Discard the O-rings.

To install:

  1. Lubricate the new O-rings with light engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Position a new O-ring onto the fuel pressure regulator.
  4.  
  5. Place the fuel pressure regulator into position and install the retainers. Tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Run the engine at idle for 2 minutes, then turn the engine OFF and check for fuel leaks and proper operation.
  12.  

2003-06 2.4L Non-Sulev Engine
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined in this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel tank unit, as follows:
    1. Remove the fuel fill cap.
    2.  
    3. Remove the spare tire cover.
    4.  
    5. Remove the access panel (A) from the floor.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the fuel pump 5P connector (B).
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting (C) from the fuel tank unit.
    10.  
    11. Using the special tool, loosen the fuel tank unit locknut (A).

    13. Remove the locknut and fuel pump module.

  5. Remove the clip (A).
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel pressure regulator (B).
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with new O-rings (C).
  2.  
  3. Make sure the regulator is installed with the drain hole (D) facing down.
    NOTE
    Coat the O-ring with clean engine oil.

2003-06 2.4L Sulev And 3.0L Engines
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined in this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel tank unit, as follows:
    1. Remove the fuel fill cap.
    2.  
    3. Remove the spare tire cover.
    4.  
    5. Remove the access panel (A) from the floor.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the fuel pump 5P connector (B).
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting (C) from the fuel tank unit.
    10.  
    11. Using the special tool, loosen the fuel tank unit locknut (A).

    13. Remove the locknut and fuel pump module.
    14.

  5. Remove the holder (A).
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel pressure regulator (B).
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring (C).
    NOTE
    Coat the O-ring with clean engine oil.

Civic
1.7L Engine
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined in this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel tank unit, as follows:
    1. Remove the fuel fill cap.
    2.  
    3. Remove the seat cushion.
    4.  
    5. Remove the access panel (A) from the floor.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the fuel pump 5P connector (B).
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting (C) from the fuel tank unit.

    10.  
    11. Using the Fuel Sender Wrench 07AAA-S0XA100, or equivalent special tool, loosen the fuel tank unit locknut (A).

    13. Remove the locknut and the fuel tank unit

  5. Remove the fuel pressure regulator (A).
  6.  
  7. Install the part in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring (B).

1.8L And 2.0L Engines
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined in this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel tank unit, as follows:
    1. Remove the fuel fill cap.
    2.  
    3. Remove the rear cushion.
    4.  
    5. Remove the rear floor upper cross-member (A).
    6.  
    7. Remove the access panel (A) from the floor.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the fuel tank unit 4P connector (B).
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings (C) from the fuel tank unit.
    12.  
    13. Using Fuel Pump Module Locknut Wrench 07AAA-SNAA100, or equivalent the special tool, loosen the locknut (A).
    14.  
    15. Remove the locknut (A) and the fuel tank unit (B).

  5. Remove the bracket (A).
  6.  
  7. Remove the ground ring (B).
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel pressure regulator (C).
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the regulator in the reverse order of removal with new O-rings (D) and bracket. When installing the fuel tank unit, align the marks on the unit and the fuel tank.
    NOTE
    Coat the O-rings with clean engine oil.


    WARNING
    Do not pinch the O-rings during installation. Never apply brake fluid, vegetable oil, or alcohol-based oil to the O-rings.

S2000
  1. Place a shop towel under the fuel pressure regulator, then relieve fuel pressure, as outlined in this section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the vacuum hose and fuel return hose.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two 6 mm retainer bolts (A) and the fuel pressure regulator (B).

To install:

  1. Apply clean engine oil to a new o-ring (C), and carefully install it into its proper position.
  2.  
  3. Install the fuel pressure regulator and the 6 mm retainer bolts.
  4.  
  5. Reconnect the vacuum hose and fuel return hose.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel pressure in the fuel line rises. Repeat this two or three times, then check whether there is any fuel leakage.
