To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure making sure of the following:

The throttle cable is properly routed, installed, and has 0.39-0.47 inches (10-12mm) of deflection.

If equipped, make sure the transaxle and cruise control cables are properly routed and installed correctly. With the engine at a warm idle the cruise control cable should have 0.18-0.22 inches (4.5-5.5mm) of free play.

The cooling system is topped off and bled as necessary.

  2.

2003-06 2.4L Engines
  1. For 2003-04 models, except SULEV, LX-P models, disconnect the IAT sensor connector (A).
  2.
  3. Remove the intake air duct (B).
  4.
  5. Disconnect the IAC valve connector (C), and the TP sensor connector (D).
  6.
  7. Disconnect and plug the water bypass hoses (E).
  8.
  9. Disconnect the vacuum hose (F).
  10.
  11. Remove the throttle cable (G) and actuator cable (with cruise control) (H).
  12.
  13. Remove the harness clip (I) and throttle body (J).
    NOTE
The throttle position (TP) sensor is not removable.

  14.

To install:

  1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new gasket (K).
    NOTE
Do not adjust the throttle stop screw (L).

  2.
  3. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure after the throttle body has been replaced:
    1. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio, rear window defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
    2.
    3. Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
    4.
    5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and wait 2 seconds.
    6.
    7. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or until the engine coolant temperature reaches 194 ºF (90 ºC).
    8.
    9. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with the throttle fully closed.
      NOTE
If the radiator fan comes on, do not include its running time in the 5 minutes.

    10.

  4.
  5. Refill the radiator with engine coolant.
  6.
  7. After reassembly, adjust the cruise control cable:
    1. Check that the actuator cable (A) moves smoothly with no binding or sticking.
    2.
    3. Measure the amount of movement of the output linkage (B) until the engine speed starts to increase.
    4.
    5. At first, the output linkage should be located at the fully closed position (C). The free play (D) should be 3.75±0.5 mm (0.15±0.02 in.).
    6.
    7. If the free play is not within specification, loosen the locknut (E), and turn the adjusting nut (F) until the free play is as specified, then retighten the locknut.

    8.
    9. Adjust the throttle cable as follows:
    10.
    11. Check cable free play at the throttle linkage. Cable free play (A) should be 3/8-1/2 in. (10-12 mm).
    12.
    13. If the free play is not within spec (3/8-1/2 in., 10-12 mm), loosen the locknut (B), turn the adjusting nut (C) until the free play is as specified, then retighten the locknut.
