Accord

NOTE
Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  2.  
  3. Discharge the air conditioning system. Disconnect the suction and the receiver lines from the evaporator core.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. From under the hood, open the cable clamp. Disconnect the heater control cable from the valve. Turn the valve to the fully opened position. Disconnect the heater hoses from heater core assembly. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit.
  8.  
  9. Remove the center console as follows.

    If equipped with manual transaxle, remove the shifter knob
     
    Detach the center console retaining clips and pull the assembly upward
     
    If equipped with heated seats, detach the heat switch connectors
     
    Pry up on the right side of the console pocket, detach the clips and remove the pocket

    Remove the screws, detach the clips and disconnect the front power accessory connector
     
    Open the console lid and remove the console mat
     
    If equipped, disconnect the rear accessory power socket electrical connector
     
    Remove the console retaining screws and remove the console from the vehicle

  11. Remove the drivers side lower dashboard cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the passengers side lower dashboard cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the center pocket assembly. Remove the glovebox.
  16.  
  17. On 2004-06 vehicles remove the drivers side under cover panel. Remove the drivers and passengers kick panels. Remove the A-pillar trim panels.
  18.  
  19. Remove the steering column as follows.

    Remove the driver-s air bag assembly
     
    Remove the steering wheel
     
    Remove the steering column covers
     
    Remove the steering joint cover
     
    Release the tilt/telescopic lever and adjust the column in the full up position
     
    Tighten the tilt/telescopic lever
     
    Hold the slider shaft on the column using a piece of wire

    Release the tilt/telescopic lever and adjust the column to the full up position
     
    Tighten the tilt/telescopic lever
     
    Disconnect the wire harness from the combination switch and remove the switch
     
    Disconnect the connectors from the ignition switch and release the wire harness clips from the column
     
    Remove the steering joint bolt and disconnect the steering joint from the pinion shaft
     
    Remove the steering column retaining nuts and remove the column from the vehicle

  21. Remove the driver-s side center lower cover. Remove the passenger-s side center lower cover and rear duct vent. Remove the SRS control unit.
  22.  
  23. On the driver-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  24.  
  25. In the middle section of the dashboard disconnect the parking brake switch connector, radio antenna connector and lead. Disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard. Disconnect the ECM/PCM connector.
  26.  
  27. On the passenger-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  28.  
  29. Remove the brake pedal support member.
  30.  
  31. Open the driver-s side door remove the bolts and clips after remove their protective caps. Lift upward on the dashboard/steering hanger beam to release if from the guide pins. Be sure all electrical connectors are unplugged.

  33. Carefully remove the dashboard assembly from the vehicle.
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the connectors from the air mix control motor, evaporator temperature sensor, power transistor and recirculation control motor.
  36.  
  37. Remove the wiring harness clips, connector clip and wire harness. Remove the heater ducts.

  39. Remove the mounting nuts and remove the blower-heater unit from the vehicle.
  40.  
  41. Remove the heater core cover. Remove the heater core.
  42.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  4.  
  5. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Enter the antitheft codes for the radio and the navigation system. Set the clock.
  8.  
  9. Reprogram the power window control unit as follows.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition switch ON. Lower the window, all the way down. Open the driver-s side door.
  12.  
  13. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Push and hold the drivers window DOWN switch. Turn the ignition switch ON. Release the driver-s window DOWN switch. This must be done within five seconds.
  14.  
  15. Repeat the above step three more times. Wait one second.
  16.  
  17. Confirm that the AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If they work repeat the procedure, paying close attention to the five second time limit
  18.  
  19. Move the driver-s window all the way down by holding the drivers window DOWN switch to the AUTO DOWN position.
  20.  
  21. Pull up and hold the driver-s window UP switch to the AUTO UP position until the window reaches the fully closed position. Hold the switch for one second.
  22.  
  23. Confirm that the power window master switch has been reset by using the driver-s window AUTO UP and DOWN function.
  24.  
  25. If the AUTO UP and DOWN feature is still not working, repeat the complete procedure, paying close attention to the five second time limit.
  26.  

Civic
2001-05 Models

NOTE
Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  3. Discharge the air conditioning system. Disconnect the suction and the receiver lines from the evaporator core.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. From under the hood, open the cable clamp. Disconnect the heater control cable from the valve. Turn the valve to the fully opened position. Disconnect the heater hoses from heater core assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the heater control valve mounting bolt and remove the valve. Remove the heater unit mounting nut. Take care not to bend or damage fuel and brake lines.
  10.  
  11. Remove the center console as follows.

    If equipped with manual transaxle, remove the shifter knob
     
    Detach the center console retaining clips and pull the assembly upward
     
    If equipped with heated seats, detach the heat switch connectors
     
    Pry up on the right side of the console pocket, detach the clips and remove the pocket
     
    Remove the screws, detach the clips and disconnect the front power accessory connector
     
    Open the console lid and remove the console mat
     
    If equipped, disconnect the rear accessory power socket electrical connector
     
    Remove the console retaining screws and remove the console from the vehicle

  13. Remove the drivers side lower dashboard cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the passengers side lower dashboard cover.
  16.  
  17. Remove the center pocket assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the drivers and passengers kick panels. Remove the A-pillar trim panels.
  20.  
  21. Remove the driver-s side air bag. Remove the steering wheel and cable reel. Remove the steering column covers.
  22.  
  23. Remove the combination switch assembly from the column shaft by disconnecting the connectors and removing the screws. Disconnect the ignition switch connectors from the under dash fuse/relay box.
  24.  
  25. Remove the steering joint bolt, at the base of the column. Remove the steering column retaining bolts and remove the column.
  26.  
  27. If equipped with manual transaxle, remove the rear vent duct. Reposition the shift lever for clearance.
  28.  
  29. From under the center dash, remove the rear vent duct. Open the passenger-s side door and pull outward on the bottom of the dashboard side cover to release the lower clip. Remove the cover.
  30.  
  31. On the driver-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  32.  
  33. On vehicles equipped with automatic transaxle, disconnect the parking pin shift connector and the shift lock solenoid connector.
  34.  
  35. In the middle section of the dashboard disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  36.  
  37. On the passenger-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard. Disconnect the ECM/PCM connector.
  38.  
  39. Open the driver-s side door remove the bolts and clips after remove their protective caps. Lift upward on the dashboard/steering hanger beam to release if from the guide pins. Be sure all electrical connectors are unplugged.
  40.  
  41. Carefully remove the dashboard assembly from the vehicle.
  42.  
  43. Remove the passengers side lower dashboard cover, the right kick panel and the glovebox.
  44.  
  45. Remove the dash brace center bolt. Cut the plastic brace in the glove box opening. Discard the plastic piece.

  47. Remove the relays. Remove the bolts and the glovebox frame. Remove the ECM/PCM.
  48.  
  49. Disconnect the connectors from the air mix control motor, evaporator temperature sensor, power transistor and recirculation control motor.
  50.  
  51. Remove the wiring harness clips, connector clip and wire harness. Remove the heater ducts.
  52.  
  53. Fold back the carpet and remove the mounting bolts. Disconnect the drain hose. Remove the blower unit from the vehicle.
  54.  
  55. Remove the self taping screws and the expansion valve cover. Pry out the evaporator core.
  56.  
  57. Remove the self taping screws, remove the grommet and carefully pry out the heater core.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  4.  
  5. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Enter the antitheft codes for the radio and the navigation system.
  8.  
  9. Reprogram the ECM/PCM engine idle characteristics. Be sure all electrical items are OFF.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine. Hold the idle speed at 3000 RPM-s in park or neutral until the radiator fan comes on or the temperature reached 194 degrees.
  12.  
  13. Let the engine idle for about five minutes with the throttle fully closed.
  14.  
  15. If the radiator fan comes on during the five minutes, do not count this toward the five minute programming time.
  16.  
  17. Set the clock.
  18.  

2006 Models

NOTE
Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  2.  
  3. Discharge the air conditioning system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the heater hoses. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit.
  6.  
  7. Remove the subdisplay visor. Remove the navigation system, if equipped. On vehicles without navigation system remove the radio.
  8.  
  9. Remove the dashboard retaining screws. Detach the retaining clips along the lower edge of the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Detach the retaining clips along the upper edge of the instrument panel. Gently pull forward to release the hooks from the holder of the gauge module.
  12.  
  13. Remove the instrument panel.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor. Remove the wire harness clip. Disconnect the connector from the recirculation control motor.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the connectors from the mode control motor, the evaporator temperature sensor and the power transistor. Remove the wire clip harness.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the connectors from the air mix control motor and the air conditioning wire harness. Remove the connector clip and the wire harness clips.
  20.  
  21. Remove the mounting bolt, mounting nuts and the heater/blower unit from the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Remove the self taping screws, remove the grommet and carefully pry out the heater core.

  11. Turn the ignition switch ON. Lower the window, all the way down. Open the driver-s side door.

  13. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Push and hold the drivers window DOWN switch. Turn the ignition switch ON. Release the driver-s window DOWN switch. This must be done within five seconds.

Prelude

NOTE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    Wait at least 3 minutes for the SRS to deplete its energy before working on the steering wheel or instrument panel.

  2.  
  3. In the engine compartment, remove the heater valve cable clamp; then, disconnect the heater valve cable and rotate the heater valve to the fully open position.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant into a clean container for reuse.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Heater hoses from the heater unit
     
    Heater housing-to-chassis nuts
     
    Instrument panel
     
    Steering hanger beam mounting bolts and the steering hanger beam
     

  8.  
  9. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant
  10.  
  11. Remove the evaporator housing by removing or disconnecting the following:Remove or disconnect the following:

    Refrigerant lines. Discard the O-rings. Plug the openings to prevent contamination.
     
    Thermostat electrical connector
     
    Drain hose and remove the evaporator housing.
     



    Electrical connector from the mode control motor
     
    Wiring harness clips from the heater housing
     
    Heater housing-to-chassis nuts and the heater housing
     
    Heater housing screws and separate the housings
     
    Heater core from the heater housing

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heater core to the heater housing
     
    Assemble the housings and install the heater housing screws
     
    Heater housing and the heater housing-to-chassis nuts
     
    Wiring harness clips to the heater housing
     
    Electrical connector to the mode control motor
     

  2.  
  3. Install the evaporator housing:

    Evaporator housing and connect the drain hose
     
    Evaporator housing-to-chassis screws, the bolt and nuts
     
    Thermostat electrical connector and the wiring harness to the evaporator
     
    Refrigerant lines using new O-rings
     
    Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant
     

  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Steering hanger beam and the steering hanger beam mounting bolts
     
    Instrument panel
     
    Heater housing-to-chassis nuts
     
    Heater hoses to the heater unit
     

  6.  
  7. Refill the cooling system.
  8.  
  9. In the engine compartment, Install the heater valve cable clamp; then, connect the heater valve cable.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
  14.  

S2000

NOTE
Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant. Disconnect the heat shield from the exhaust manifold. Remove the battery.
  4.  
  5. Discharge the air conditioning system. Disconnect the suction and the receiver lines from the evaporator core.
  6.  
  7. From under the hood, open the cable clamp. Disconnect the heater control cable from the valve. Turn the valve arm to the fully open position.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mounting bolt from the heater valve. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater unit. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit. Disconnect the air conditioning lines from the evaporator housing.
  10.  
  11. Remove the radio panel retaining clips and remove the panel. Remove the radio retaining screws and pull the unit forward. Disconnect the antenna lead and electrical connectors and remove the radio.
  12.  
  13. Remove the driver-s side air bag. Remove the steering wheel and cable reel. Remove the steering column covers.
  14.  
  15. Remove the combination switch assembly from the column shaft by disconnecting the connectors and removing the screws. Disconnect the ignition switch connectors from the under dash fuse/relay box.
  16.  
  17. Remove the steering joint bolt, at the base of the column. Remove the steering column retaining bolts and remove the column.
  18.  
  19. Remove the drivers side lower dash cover. Remove the passenger-s side lower dash cover. Remove the drivers and passengers side front console cover.
  20.  
  21. Remove the passenger-s side air bag assembly.
  22.  
  23. Remove the kick panels and A-pillar trim from both the drivers and passenger-s side.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard. Remove the ground bolts.
  26.  
  27. Open the driver-s side door remove the bolts and clips after remove their protective caps. Lift upward on the dashboard/steering hanger beam to release if from the guide pins. Be sure all electrical connectors are unplugged.
  28.  
  29. Remove the blower/evaporator housing from the vehicle.
  30.  
  31. Remove the mounting bolts, the center brackets and the radio mounting brackets.
  32.  
  33. Remove the SRS unit. Remove the defroster outlet and wire harness clips.
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the connectors from the mode control motor and the air mix control motor. Remove the wire harness clip.

  37. Remove the mounting nuts, the mounting bolts and remove the heater unit from the vehicle.

  39. Remove the heater core cover. Remove the heater core.

To install:

  13. Let the engine idle for about five minutes with the throttle fully closed.
  14.  
  15. If the radiator fan comes on during the five minutes, do not count this toward the five minute programming time.

  17. On 2006 vehicles, reprogram the ECM engine idle characteristics. Be sure all electrical items are OFF.
  18.  
  19. Reset the ECM with the HDS. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Wait two seconds.
  20.  
  21. Start the engine. Hold the idle speed at 3000 RPM-s in neutral until the radiator fan comes on or the temperature reached 194 degrees.
  22.  
  23. Let the engine idle for about five minutes with the throttle fully closed.
  24.  
  25. If the radiator fan comes on during the five minutes, do not count this toward the five minute programming time.
