Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 3 minutes.
  2.  
  3. Place the wheels in the straight-ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering wheel air bag access cover and disconnect the air bag connector from the cable reel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 Torx® bolts, one each side of the steering wheel hub.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the horn switch connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air bag.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the cable reel harness.
  14.  
  15. Remove the steering wheel nut.
  16.  
  17. Using a puller, remove the steering wheel.

  19. Remove the steering coupler cover from the floor.
  20.  
  21. Set the column shaft to the neutral position by raising the column to the uppermost position, then lower it 8mm (0.31 in.). Tighten the tilt lever.

  23. Remove the column covers.
  24.  
  25. Move the shift lever to N and remove the shift cable from the column.
  26.  
  27. Remove the combination switch.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the ignition switch.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect the immobilizer receiver unit, the park pin switch and the shift lock solenoid.
  32.  
  33. Matchmark and disconnect the steering joint from the column shaft.
  34.  
  35. Remove the attaching bolts and nuts and remove the steering column.
  36.  
  37. Installation is the reverse of removal. See the coupler alignment illustration. Torque the coupler bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
