Barometric Pressure Sensor

Print

Operation

The BARO sensor senses barometric pressure and converts it into a voltage which is than sent to the ECM. The ECM uses the signal to compute the altitude at which the vehicle is operating and corrects the air fuel ratio and the ignition timing, thus improving drivability at high altitude.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.
  5. Remove the bolt that retains the sensor.
  6.
  7. Remove the sensor.
  8.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.

Testing

  1. Connect the scan tool.
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  4.
  5. When the altitude is 0 the test specification should be 760 mmHg.
  6.
  7. When the altitude is 1969 feet the test specification should be 710 mmHg.
  8.
  9. When the altitude is 3937 feet the test specification should be 660 mmHg.
  10.
  11. When the altitude is 5906 feet the test specification should be 610 mmHg.
  12.
  13. Replace the component, as required.
  14.
