Operation



This sensor is a pressure sensitive variable resistor. It measures the changes in the intake manifold pressure which result from engine load and speed changes, and converts to a voltage output. This sensor is used to measure the barometric pressure at start up, and under certain conditions, allows the ECM to automatically adjust for different altitudes. The ECM supplies 5 volts to the sensor and monitors the voltage on a signal line. The sensor provides a path to ground through its variable resistor. The sensor input affects fuel delivery and ignition timing controls in the ECM.

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the sensor retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.

Testing



  1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  2.  
  3. Measure the voltage between terminal 1 (sensor output) and terminal 4 (sensor ground).
  4.  
  5. Specification should be 4-5 volts.
  6.  
  7. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
  8.  

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  2.  
  3. Measure the voltage between terminal 1 (sensor output) and terminal 4 (sensor ground).
  4.  
  5. Specification should be 4-5 volts.
  6.  
  7. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
  8.  

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  2.  
  3. Measure the voltage between terminal 1 (sensor output) and terminal 4 (sensor ground).
  4.  
  5. Specification should be 4-5 volts.
  6.  
  7. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
  8.  

2.4L Engine
  1. Measure the voltage between terminal 1 (sensor ground) and terminal 4 (sensor output), 1999-2000 vehicles.
  2.  
  3. Measure the voltage between terminal 4 (sensor ground) and terminal 1 (sensor output), 2001-2003 vehicles.
  4.  
  5. Specification should be 4-5 volts, with the ignition switch ON.
  6.  
  7. Specification should be 0.8-2.4 volts at idle.
  8.  
  9. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
  10.  

  1. Measure the voltage between terminal 4 (sensor ground) and terminal 1 (sensor output).
  2.  
  3. Specification should be 4-5 volts, with the ignition switch ON.
  4.  
  5. Specification should be 0.8-2.4 volts at idle.
  6.  
  7. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
  8.  

2.5L Engine
  1. Measure the voltage between terminal 1 (sensor ground) and terminal 4 (sensor output), 1999-2000 vehicles.
  2.  
  3. Measure the voltage between terminal 4 (sensor ground) and terminal 1 (sensor output), 2001-2003 vehicles.
  4.  
  5. Specification should be 4-5 volts, with the ignition switch ON.
  6.  
  7. Specification should be 0.8-2.4 volts at idle.
  8.  
  9. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
  10.  

2.7L Engine
  1. Measure the voltage between terminal 4 (sensor ground) and terminal 1 (sensor output).
  2.  
  3. Specification should be 4-5 volts, with the ignition switch ON.

  7. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
