Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Hyundai Entourage 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cover (as necessary).
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the ignition coil connector.
    NOTE
    When removing the ignition coil connector, pull the lock pin (A) and push the clip (B).

  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt from the ignition coil.
  8.  
  9. Remove the ignition coil.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Testing

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the ignition coil connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ignition coil.
  6.  
  7. Using a spark plug socket, remove the spark plug.
  8.  
  9. Install the spark plug to the ignition coil.
  10.  
  11. Ground the spark plug to the engine.
  12.  
  13. Check if spark occurs while engine is being cranked.
    NOTE
    To prevent fuel being injected from injectors while the engine is being cranked, remove the fuel pump relay from the fuse box.

  15. Crank the engine for no more than 5-10 seconds.
  16.  
  17. Inspect for spark at each of the spark plugs one at a time.
  18.  
  19. If the spark test fails:
    1. Check connection at ignition coil connector. If faulty, make necessary repairs.
    2.  
    3. Check for battery voltage at ignition coil positive terminal. If voltage is not present, check the wiring between the ignition switch and the ignition coil.
    4.  
    5. Check for faulty Camshaft Sensor. Repair as needed.
    6.  
    7. Check for faulty Crankshaft Sensor. Repair as needed.
    8.  
    9. Check ignition signal from ECM. Make repairs as needed.
    10.  
    11. Measure the primary coil resistance between terminals on the effected ignition coil. Standard value: 0.62 ohms plus or minus 10 percent. If out of specification, replace the ignition coil.
