NOTE
Hyundai recommends that the engine and transaxle be removed as a single unit.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Drain the transaxle.
  6.  
  7. Drain the engine oil.
  8.  
  9. Relieve fuel system pressure.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Battery
     
    Hood
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Engine wiring harness connectors
     
    Reverse lamp switch connector
     
    Speedometer cable
     
    Alternator harness connectors
     
    Oil pressure gauge sender connector
     
    Radiator hoses
     
    Cooling fan
     
    Fuel lines
     
    Control cable, if equipped
     
    Brake booster vacuum line
     
    Intake manifold vacuum lines
     
    Heater hoses
     
    Accelerator cable
     
    Cruise control cable, if equipped
     
    Engine ground cable
     
    Transaxle oil cooler lines
     
    Shift cable
     
    Transaxle wiring connectors
     
    Radiator
     
    Power steering pump
     
    A/C compressor
     
    Exhaust front pipe
     
    Lower ball joints
     
    Stabilizer bar control links

  13. Separate the inner CV-joints from the transaxle and suspend the halfshafts out of the work area with safety wire.
  14.  
  15. Attach a hoist to the engine lifting eyes.
  16.  
  17. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front and rear roll stoppers
     
    Engine mount and bracket
     
    Transaxle mount and bracket
     

  18.  
  19. Lift the powertrain out of the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Lower the powertrain into position.
  2.  
  3. Install the motor mount bracket and torque the fasteners to: 43-58 ft. lbs. (60-80 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the transaxle mount bracket and torque the fasteners to: 65-79 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Front and rear roll stoppers
     
    Engine mount
     
    Transaxle mount
     

  8.  
  9. Remove the engine hoist.
  10.  
  11. Torque the mount through bolts as follows:
    1. Engine mount: 65-80 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Transaxle mount: 65-80 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Front roll stopper: 36-47 ft. lbs. (50-65 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Rear roll stopper: 36-47 ft. lbs. (50-65 Nm).
    8.

  13. Install or connect the following:

    Axle halfshafts using new circlips
     
    Stabilizer bar control links
     
    Lower ball joints
     
    Exhaust front pipe
     
    A/C compressor
     
    Power steering pump
     
    Radiator
     
    Transaxle oil cooler lines
     
    Shift cable
     
    Transaxle wiring connectors
     
    Engine ground cable
     
    Cruise control cable
     
    Accelerator cable
     
    Heater hoses
     
    Intake manifold vacuum lines
     
    Brake booster vacuum line
     
    Fuel lines
     
    Cooling fan
     
    Radiator hoses
     
    Oil pressure gauge sender connector
     
    Alternator harness connectors
     
    Speedometer cable
     
    Reverse lamp switch connector
     
    Engine wiring harness connectors
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Hood
     
    Battery
     

  14.  
  15. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  16.  
  17. Fill the transaxle to the correct level.
  18.  
  19. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
  20.  
  21. Start the engine and check for leaks.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Drain the transaxle.
  6.  
  7. Drain the engine oil.
  8.  
  9. Relieve fuel system pressure.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Battery
     
    Hood

    Accessory drive belts
     
    Engine wiring harness connectors

  13. If equipped with a manual transaxle, disconnect or remove the following:

    Clutch cable
     
    Select control valve connector
     
    Shift linkage rods

  15. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, disconnect or remove the following:

    Transaxle oil cooler lines
     
    Shift cable
     
    Transaxle wiring connectors
     

  16.  
  17. For all vehicles, remove or disconnect the following:

    Radiator
     
    Power steering pump
     
    A/C compressor, if equipped
     
    Exhaust front pipe
     
    Lower ball joints
     
    Stabilizer bar links
     

  18.

To install:

  1. Lower the powertrain into position.
  2.  
  3. Install the motor mount bracket and torque the fasteners as follows:
    1. V6 engines: 43-58 ft. lbs. (60-80 Nm).
    2.  
    3. All others: 37-48 ft. lbs. (45-60 Nm).
    4.

  5. Install the transaxle mount bracket and torque the fasteners as follows:
    1. Sonata: 29-36 ft. lbs. (40-50 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tiburon and Elantra: 33-43 ft. lbs. (45-60 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Accent: 22-30 ft. lbs. (30-40 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Azera: 65-79 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
    8.

  7. Install or connect the following:

    Front and rear roll stoppers
     
    Engine mount
     
    Transaxle mount

  9. Remove the engine hoist.
  10.  
  11. For Accent, torque the mount through bolts as follows:
    1. Engine mount: 33-43 ft. lbs. (45-60 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Transaxle mount: 65-80 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Front and rear roll stoppers: 33-43 ft. lbs. (45-60 Nm).
    6.

  13. For Elantra and Tiburon, torque the mount through bolts as follows:
    1. Engine mount: 36-47 ft. lbs. (50-65 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Transaxle mount: 65-80 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Front and rear roll stoppers: 33-43 ft. lbs. (45-60 Nm).

  15. For Sonata, torque the mount through bolts as follows:
    1. 4 cylinder engine mount: 43-58 ft. lbs. (60-80 Nm).
    2.  
    3. V6 engine mount: 65-80 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).

    5. Transaxle mount: 65-80 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Front roll stopper: 36-47 ft. lbs. (50-65 Nm).

    9. Rear roll stopper: 22-29 ft. lbs. (30-40 Nm).

  17. For Azera, torque the mount through bolts as follows:
    1. Front roll stopper: 36-47 ft. lbs. (50-65 Nm).

    3. Rear roll stopper: 36-47 ft. lbs. (50-65 Nm).

  27. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  28.  
  29. Fill the transaxle to the correct level.
  30.  
  31. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.

  33. Start the engine and check for leaks.
