Specific to:

Hyundai Entourage 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the relief plunger: remove the plug (A), spring (B), and relief plunger (C).

  5. Inspect the relief plunger.
    1. Coat the plunger with engine oil
    2.  
    3. Check that it falls smoothly into the plunger hole by its own weight.
    4.  
    5. If it does not, replace the relief plunger.
    6.  
    7. If necessary, replace the front case.
    8.  

  6.  
  7. Inspect for a distorted or broken relief valve spring.
  8.  
  9. Check the oil pump case for worn shaft hole, clogged oil passage, worn rotor chamber, cracks, and other faults.
  10.  
  11. Check the oil seal lips for deformation, hardening, or wear. Replace if defective.
  12.  
  13. Clean all of the parts in cleaning solvent. Remove any varnish, sludge, or dirt.
  14.  
  15. Inspect the oil pump for wear and scoring.
  16.  
  17. Inspect the oil pump housing and engine front cover for scoring, damaged threads, cracks, or casting imperfections.
  18.  
  19. Inspect the oil pump gears for damage.
  20.  
  21. Inspect the pressure regulator valve area for scoring, sticking, or burrs.
  22.  
  23. Check the valve for fitting condition and damage. Replace if found defective.
  24.  
  25. Inspect the oil pump pickup tube and screen assembly for looseness, broken screen, or O-ring damage.
  26.  
  27. Replace as necessary.
  28.  
  29. Install the relief plunger and spring into the front case hole.
  30.  
  31. Install the plug. Tightening torque: 29-36 ft. lbs. (39-49 Nm).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

      Free height: 1.8346 inch (46.6mm)-1.6L engine
       
      Load: 13.4 lbs. plus or minus 0.9 lbs./1.5787 inch (6.1 kg plus or minus 0.4kg/40.1mm)-1.6L engine
       
      Free height: 1.724 inch (43.8mm)-2.0L engine
       
      Load: 8.14 plus or minus 0.88 lbs./1.579 inch (3.7kg plus or minus 0.4kg/40.1mm)-2.0L engine
       
      Free height: 1.724 inch (43.8mm)-2.7L engine
       
      Load: 10 lbs./1.547 inch (4.6kg/39.1mm)-2.7L engine

  9. Inspect the rotor side clearance.
    1. Using a feeler gauge and precision straight edge, measure the clearance between the rotors and precision straight edge.
    2.  
    3. Side clearance:

      Inner rotor: 0.0016-0.0033 inch (0.04-0.085mm)-1.6L engine
       
      Outer rotor: 0.0016-0.0035 inch (0.04-0.09mm)-1.6L engine
       
      Outer gear: 0.0016-0.0035 inch (0.04-0.09mm)-2.0L engine
       
      Inner gear: 0.0016-0.0033 inch (0.04-0.085mm)-2.0L engine
       
      Side clearance: 0.0016-0.0037 inch (0.04-0.095mm)-2.7L engine

    5. If the side clearance is greater than maximum, replace the rotors as a set. If necessary, replace the front case.

  11. Inspect the rotor tip clearance.
    1. Using a feeler gauge, measure the tip clearance between the inner and outer rotor tips.
    2.  
    3. Tip clearance:

      0.0010-0.0027 inch (0.025-0.069mm)-1.6L engine
       
      0.0010-0.0027 inch (0.025-0.069mm)-2.0L engine
       
      0.0010-0.0027 inch (0.025-0.069mm)-2.7L engine

    5. If the tip clearance is greater than specified, replace the rotors as a set.

  13. Inspect the rotor body clearance.
    1. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the outer rotor and body.
    2.  
    3. Body clearance:

      0.0024-0.0035 inch (0.060-0.090mm)-1.6L engine
       
      0.0047-0.0073 inch (0.120-0.185mm)-2.0L engine
       
      0.0039-0.0017 inch (0.100-0.181mm)-2.7L engine

    5. If the body clearance is greater than specified, replace the rotors as a set. If necessary, replace the front case.
    6.

  15. Install the relief plunger and spring into the front case hole.
  16.  
  17. Install the plug. Tightening torque: 29-36 ft. lbs. (39-49 Nm).
  18.  

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Hyundai Entourage 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower oil pan, refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pump chain cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pump chain sprocket (A).
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil pump.

To install:

  1. Install the oil pump using a new O-ring. Tighten the bolts to 15-17 ft. lbs. (21-23 Nm).
    NOTE
    Always use a new O-ring.

  2.  
  3. Install the oil pump sprocket and oil pump chain on the oil pump. Tightening torque: 14-16 ft. lbs. (19-22 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pump chain cover. Tightening torque: 84-108 inch lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the lower oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  8.  
  9. After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil to allow the gasket material to cure.
  10.  
  11. Fill the engine with the proper type and amount of engine oil.
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  14.  
  15. Recheck the engine oil level.
  16.  

1.6L Engines

Specific to:

Hyundai Accent 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil pan, refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  6.  
  7. Align the timing marks: Turn the crankshaft pulley, and align its groove with the timing mark "T" of the timing belt cover
  8.  
  9. Remove the timing belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the timing belt tensioner.
  12.  
  13. Remove the alternator.
  14.  
  15. Remove the air conditioner compressor tensioner bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front case and oil pump.
    1. Remove the screw from the pump housing, then separate the housing and cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the inner rotor (A) and outer rotor (B).

To install:

  1. Place the inner and outer rotors into the front case with the marks facing the oil pump cover side.
  2.  
  3. Install the oil pump cover to the front case with the 7 screws. Tightening torque: 48-60 inch lbs. (6-7 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Check that the oil pump turns freely.
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pump on the cylinder block.
    1. Place a new front case gasket on the cylinder block.
    2.  
    3. Apply engine oil to the lip of the oil pump seal. Then, install the oil pump onto the crankshaft.
    4.  
    5. When the pump is in place, clean any excess grease off the crankshaft and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.
    6.  
    7. Install the oil pump bolts according to the following illustration. Tightening torque: 14-17 ft. lbs. (19-24 Nm).

  9. Apply a light coat of oil to the front case oil seal lip.
  10.  
  11. Using the SST (09214-32000), install the front case oil seal.

  13. Install the air conditioner compressor tensioner bracket.
  14.  
  15. Install the alternator.
  16.  
  17. Install the oil screen. Tightening torque: 11-16 ft. lbs. (15-22 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the oil pan. Tightening torque: 7-9 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm). Refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  20.  
  21. Install the timing belt tensioner.
  22.  
  23. Install the timing belt.
  24.  
  25. Install the accessory drive belts.
  26.  
  27. Fill with engine oil.
  28.  
  29. Check for leaks.
  30.  

2.0L Engine

Specific to:

Hyundai Elantra 2006-2008

Hyundai Tiburon 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil pan, refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belts.
  6.  
  7. Turn the crankshaft and align the white groove on the crankshaft pulley with the pointer on the lower cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the timing belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front case and oil pump.
    1. Remove the screws from the pump housing, then separate the housing and cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the inner and outer rotors.

To install:

  1. Place the inner and outer rotors into the front case with the marks facing the oil pump cover side.
  2.  
  3. Install the oil pump cover to the front case with the 7 screws. Tightening torque: 48-84 inch lbs. (6-9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Check that the oil pump turns freely.
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pump on the cylinder block.
    1. Place a new front case gasket on the cylinder block.
    2.  
    3. Apply engine oil to the lip of the oil pump seal. Then, install the oil pump onto the crankshaft.
    4.  
    5. When the pump is in place, clean any excess grease off the crankshaft and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.
    6.  
    7. Install the oil pump bolts in the correct position as illustrated. Tightening torque: 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 Nm).

  9. Apply a light coat of oil to the seal lip.
  10.  
  11. Using the SST (09214-33000), install the oil seal.

  13. Install the oil screen.

  15. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan, removal and installation.

  17. Ensure that the crankshaft aligns with the white groove on the crankshaft pulley and the pointer on the lower cover.

  19. Install the timing belt.
  20.  
  21. Install the accessory drive belts.
  22.  
  23. Fill with engine oil.
  24.  
  25. Check for leaks.
  26.  

2.7L Engines

Specific to:

Hyundai Tiburon 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower oil pan, refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the RH front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the RH side cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
  10.  
  11. Remove the alternator from the engine.
  12.  
  13. Turn the crankshaft and align the white groove on the crankshaft pulley with the pointer on the lower cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the timing belt.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oil screen:
    1. Remove the 2 bolts (B).
    2.  
    3. Remove the oil screen (A) and gasket.

  19. Remove the upper oil pan.

  21. Remove the oil pump case.
    1. Remove the screws from the pump housing, then separate the housing and cover.

    3. Remove the inner and outer rotors.

To install:

  1. Place the inner and outer rotors into the front case with the marks facing the oil pump cover side.
  2.  
  3. Install the oil pump cover to front case with the 8 screws. Tightening torque: 72-108 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Check that the oil pump turns freely.
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pump on the cylinder block.
    1. Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old liquid gasket from the gasket surfaces and sealing grooves.
    2.  
    3. Using a non-residue solvent, clean both sealing surfaces.
    4.  
    5. Apply liquid gasket to the oil pump as shown in the illustration. Use liquid gasket MS 721-40A or equivalent.

    7. To prevent leakage of oil, apply liquid gasket to the inner threads of the bolt holes.
    8.  
    9. Do not install the parts if 5 minutes or more have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the residue.
    10.  
    11. Place a new O-ring on the cylinder block.
    12.  
    13. Engage the spline teeth of the oil pump drive gear with large teeth of the crankshaft, and slide the oil pump on the crankshaft.
    14.  
    15. Install the oil pump with 5 bolts. Uniformly tighten the bolts in several passes. Tightening torque: 108-132 inch lbs. (12-15 Nm).
    16.

  9. Apply a light coat of oil to the seal lip.
  10.  
  11. Using the special tool (09214-33000), install the oil seal.

  13. Install the upper oil pan.
    1. Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old packing material from the gasket surfaces.
    2.  
    3. Check that the mating surfaces are clean and dry before applying liquid gasket.
    4.  
    5. Install the oil pan with the 17 bolts. Uniformly tighten the bolts in several passes using the pattern illustrated. Tightening torque:
      NOTE
      To prevent leakage of oil, apply liquid gasket to the inner threads of the bolt holes.


      NOTE
      Do not install the parts if 5 minutes or more have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the residue.



      Bolts 1-15: 168-204 inch lbs. (19-24 Nm)
       
      Bolts 16-17: 48-60 inch lbs. (5-7 Nm)

  15. Install the oil screen with a new gasket and the 2 bolts. Tightening torque: 11-16 ft. lbs. (15-22 Nm).

  17. Install the lower oil pan.
    1. Apply liquid gasket as an even bead, centered between the edges of the mating surface. Use liquid gasket MS 721-40A or equivalent.
    2.  
    3. To prevent leakage of oil, apply liquid gasket to the inner threads of the bolt holes.
    4.  
    5. Do not install the parts if 5 minutes or more have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the residue.
    6.  
    7. Install the lower oil pan 10 bolts. Uniformly tighten the bolts several passes. Tightening torque: 84-108 inch lbs. (10-12 Nm).
    8.

  19. Install the timing belt.
  20.  
  21. Install the accessory drive belt.
  22.  
  23. Install the alternator.
  24.

  3. Remove the lower oil pan, refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pump chain cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pump chain sprocket (A).
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil pump.

To install:

  1. Install the oil pump using a new O-ring. Tighten the bolts to 15-17 ft. lbs. (21-23 Nm).
