1.6L & 2.0L Engines

Specific to:

Hyundai Accent 2006-2008

Hyundai Elantra 2006-2008

Hyundai Tiburon 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove RH front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove 2 bolts (B) and RH side cover (A).

  9. Remove the engine mount bracket.
  10.  
  11. Set the jack to the engine oil pan.
    NOTE
    Place wooden block between the jack and engine oil pan.

  13. Remove the bolt (B), 3 nuts (C, D) and engine mount bracket (A).

  15. Remove the bolt (B) and stay plate (A).

  17. Temporarily loosen the water pump pulley bolts.

  19. Remove alternator belt.
  20.  
  21. Remove air compressor belt.

  23. Remove power steering belt.
  24.  
  25. Remove 4 bolts and water pump pulley.
  26.  
  27. Remove the 4 bolts and timing belt upper cover.
  28.  
  29. Turn the crankshaft pulley, and align its groove with timing mark -T- of the timing belt cover.
  30.  
  31. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt (B) and crankshaft pulley (A).

  33. Remove the crankshaft flange (A).

  35. Remove the 5 bolts (B) and timing belt lower cover (A).

To install:

  1. Install timing belt lower cover and secure with the 5 bolts. Tighten and torque to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install crankshaft flange.
  4.  
  5. Install crankshaft pulley and secure with the crankshaft pulley bolt. Tighten and torque to 125-133 ft. lbs. (170-180 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the timing belt upper cover and secure with the 4 bolts. Tighten and torque to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the water pump pulley and loosely secure with the 4 bolts.
  10.  
  11. Install the power steering, the air compressor and the alternator belts.
  12.  
  13. Tighten all 4 water pump pulley bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the stay plate and bolts. Tighten and torque to 55 ft. lbs. (69 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install engine mounting brackets, secure with bolts and nuts. Tighten and torque to 80 ft. lbs. (94 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Lower the jack and remove from under the vehicle.
  20.  
  21. Install the RH side cover and secure with 2 bolts.
  22.  
  23. Install the RH front wheel.
  24.  
  25. Install the engine cover.
  26.  

2.7L Engine

Specific to:

Hyundai Tiburon 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
    Engine removal is not required for this procedure.

  3. Remove the engine cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove RH front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bolts (B) and RH side cover (A).

  9. Turn the crankshaft pulley, and align its groove with timing mark -T- of the timing belt cover.
    NOTE
    Always turn the crankshaft clockwise.

  11. Remove the auto-tensioner (B) and the drive belt (A).

  13. Remove the engine mount bracket.
    1. Set the jack to the engine oil pan.
      NOTE
      Place wooden block between the jack and engine oil pan.

    3. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and engine mount bracket.

  15. Remove the power steering pump.

  17. Remove the 7 bolts (B) and timing belt upper cover (A).

  19. Remove the crankshaft damper/pulley bolt and crankshaft damper/pulley.
  20.  
  21. Remove the drive belt idler pulley.
  22.  
  23. Remove the 4 bolts (B) and timing belt lower cover (A).

To install:

  1. Install the timing belt lower cover (A) with 4 bolts (B). Tightening torque of timing belt cover bolt: 84-108 inch lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the drive belt idler pulley. Tightening torque idler pulley bolt: 33-40 ft. lbs. (44-54 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the crankshaft damper/pulley. Tightening torque crankshaft pulley bolt: 123-130 ft. lbs. (167-177 Nm).
    NOTE
    Make sure that crankshaft sprocket pin fits the small hole in the pulley.

  7. Install the timing belt upper cover with 7 bolts.
  8.  
  9. Install the power steering pump.
  10.  
  11. Install the drive belt tensioner and drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Install the drive belt to the tensioner pulley and install the tensioner as shown. Tightening torque: 18-20 ft. lbs. (25-28 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the drive belt following order:
    1. Alternator
    2.  
    3. Power steering
    4.  
    5. Crankshaft pulley
    6.  
    7. A/C pulley, if equipped
    8.

  17. Rotate the tensioner arm clockwise (about 14°) using a wrench and return it slowly to the original position.

  19. Install the engine mount bracket. Tightening torque of engine mount bracket with 2 nuts and 2 bolts: 43-58 ft. lbs. (59-79 Nm).

  21. Install the RH side cover with the 2 bolts.
  22.  
  23. Install the RH front wheel.
  24.  
  25. Install the engine cover.
