WARNING
When performing this procedure, do NOT start the vehicle-s engine until instructed to do so. This procedure will require the help of an assistant.

  1. Carefully raise the front end of the vehicle and support with safety stands.
  2.  
  3. Check the power steering pump fluid level.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition key to the ON position, to unlock the steering column, but do NOT start the engine.
  6.  
  7. Turn the steering wheel fully from left to right and back several times with the engine OFF.
  8.  
  9. Recheck the fluid level, and add as necessary.
  10.  
  11. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the fluid level stabilizes.
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and let it idle.
  14.  
  15. Turn the steering wheel fully from left to right and back several times.
  16.  
  17. Check to make sure the fluid is not foamy and that the fluid level has not dropped.
  18.  
  19. If necessary, add fluid and repeat steps 8 and 9.

CAUTION
The fluid level should be checked with the engine OFF to prevent injury from moving components. Use only PSF-3 power steering fluid, or equivalent. Do not overfill.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Wipe the reservoir fill cap clean before removal.
  4.  
  5. Fill the pump fluid reservoir to the proper level. The fluid level should be within the -FILL RANGE- listed on the exterior of the reservoir when the fluid is at normal ambient temperature, approximately 70-80°F (21-27°C).
  6.  
  7. Let the fluid settle in the system for at least 2 minutes.
  8.  
  9. Start the engine and let it run for a few seconds. Then turn the engine OFF .
  10.  
  11. Add fluid if necessary. Repeat the above procedure until the fluid level remains constant after running the engine.
  12.  
  13. Raise the front wheels off the ground.
  14.  
  15. Start the engine. Slowly turn the steering wheel right and left, lightly contacting the wheel stops.
  16.  
  17. Turn the engine off. Check the fluid level and add power steering fluid if necessary.
  18.  
  19. Start the engine. Lower the vehicle and turn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock.
  20.  
  21. Stop the engine. Check the fluid level and refill as required.
  22.  
  23. If the fluid is extremely foamy, allow the vehicle to stabilize a few minutes, then repeat the above procedure.
