Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Record the radio anti-theft code data.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump pulley.
  12.  
  13. Remove the water pump retaining bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the water pump from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Reprogram the radio anti-theft code data.
  4.  
  5. Install the water pump (A) and a new gasket (B) with 12 bolts.
  6.  
  7. Be sure to use a new water pump gasket. Torque the retaining bolts to 16-17 ft. lbs. (22-23 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Torque the water pump pulley bolts to 6-7 ft. lbs. (8-10 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Be sure to refill the cooling system with the proper grade and type coolant.
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Specific to:

Hyundai Accent 2006-2008


CAUTION
The system is under high pressure when the engine is hot. To avoid danger of releasing scalding engine coolant, remove the cap only when the engine is cool.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The accessory drive belt
     
    The water pump pulley
     
    The timing belt
     
    The timing belt idler
     

  8.  
  9. Remove the water pump:
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and alternator brace (A).
    2.  
    3. Remove the 3 bolts and remove the water pump (B) and gasket.

To install:

  1. Install the water pump and a new gasket with the 3 bolts. Tightening torque: 9-11 ft. lbs. (12-15 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the alternator brace with the 2 bolts. Tightening torque: 15-17 ft. lbs. (20-24 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    The timing belt idler
     
    The timing belt
     
    The water pump pulley
     
    The accessory drive belt
     

  6.  
  7. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts. Tightening torque: 72-84 inch lbs. (8-10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Fill with engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Start engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Recheck engine coolant level.

CAUTION
The system is under high pressure when the engine is hot. To avoid danger of releasing scalding engine coolant, remove the cap only when the engine is cool.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The accessory drive belt
     
    The timing belt
     
    The timing belt idler
     

  6.  
  7. Remove the water pump:
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and pump pulley.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 bolts (C), then remove the alternator brace (A).
    4.  
    5. Remove the water pump (B) and gasket.

To install:

  1. Install the water pump (B) and a new gasket with the 3 bolts. Tightening torque: 15-17 ft. lbs. (20-24 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    The alternator brace (A) with the 2 bolts (C)
     
    The 4 bolts and pump pulley
     
    The timing belt idler
     
    The timing belt
     
    The accessory drive belt
     

  4.  
  5. Fill with engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Start engine and check for leaks.
  8.  
  9. Recheck engine coolant level.

CAUTION

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The accessory drive belt
     
    The timing belt
     
    The timing belt idler
     
    The water pump (A) gasket (B)

To install:

  1. Install the water pump (A) and a new gasket (B) with the 8 bolts. Tightening torque: 11-16 ft. lbs. (15-22 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the timing belt idler.
  4.  
  5. Install the timing belt.
  6.  
  7. Install the accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Fill with engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Start engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Recheck engine coolant level.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The accessory drive belt (A)
     
    The 4 bolts and pump pulley
     
    The water pump and gasket

To install:


NOTE
Clean the contact face before assembly.

  1. Install the water pump and a new gasket with 12 bolts. Tightening torque: 16-17 ft. lbs. (22-24 Nm); 84-108 inch lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the 4 bolts and the pump pulley. Tightening torque: 72-84 inch lbs. (8-10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the accessory drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Fill with engine coolant.
  8.  
  9. Start engine and check for leaks.
  10.  
  11. Recheck engine coolant level.
