REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1986-89 Excel

The blower resistor is attached to the outside of the blower case.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the wiring from the resistor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two screws that attach the blower resistor to the blower case and remove it.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Check the blower for proper operation at all speeds.
  8.  

1990-93 Excel, Elantra and Scoupe

The blower resistor is located on top of the upper blower case.

  1. Remove the glove box housing cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower crash pad assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wire from the blower resistor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two retaining screws and withdraw the blower resistor from the blower upper case.
  8.  
  9. Install the blower resistor into the upper case half with the two retaining screws.
  10.  
  11. Connect the blower resistor wire.
  12.  
  13. Install the lower crash pad assembly.
  14.  
  15. Install the glove box housing cover.
  16.  
  17. Check the blower for proper operation at all speeds.

The blower resistor is located inside the blower case to the left of the air inlet duct. The resistor is accessible by removing the glove box.

  1. Open the glove box, release the glove box retainers and allow the glove box to swing down.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the resistor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two attaching screws and remove the resistor from the heater case.
  6.  

During installation, do not apply sealer of any kind to the resistor board mounting surface.

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Check the blower for proper operation at all speeds.
