Fig. Fig. 2: Carefully pull the halogen headlight bulb from its socket. If applicable, release the retaining clip

This procedure only applies to replaceable halogen headlight bulbs (such as Nos. 9004 and 9005); it does not pertain to sealed beam units.

  1. Open the vehicle's hood and secure it in an upright position.
  2.
  3. Unfasten the locking ring which secures the bulb and socket assembly, then withdraw the assembly rearward.
  4.
  5. If necessary, gently pry the socket's retaining clip over the projection on the bulb (use care not to break the clip.) Pull the bulb from the socket.
  6.

To install:
  1. Before installing a light bulb into the socket, ensure that all electrical contact surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  2.
  3. Line up the replacement headlight bulb with the socket. Firmly push the bulb onto the socket until the spring clip latches over the bulb's projection.
  4.

WARNING
Do not touch the glass bulb with your fingers. Oil from your fingers can severely shorten the life of the bulb. If necessary, wipe off any dirt or oil from the bulb with rubbing alcohol before completing installation.

  1. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. (If this is a combination low and high beam bulb, be sure to check both intensities.) If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it too is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct if necessary.
  2.
  3. Position the headlight bulb and secure it with the locking ring.
  4.
  5. Close the vehicle's hood.
  6.

Fig. Fig. 3: Depress and twist this type of bulb counterclockwise, then pull the bulb straight from its socket

  1. Depending on the vehicle and bulb application, either unscrew and remove the lens or disengage the bulb and socket assembly from the rear of the lens housing.
  2.
  3. To remove a light bulb with retaining pins from its socket, grasp the bulb, then gently depress and twist it 1/8 turn counterclockwise, and pull it from the socket.
  4.

To install:
  1. Before installing a light bulb into the socket, ensure that all electrical contact surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  2.

Before installing the light bulb, note the positions of the two retaining pins on the bulb. They will likely be at different heights on the bulb, to ensure that the bulb is installed correctly. If, when installing the bulb, it does not turn easily, do not force it. Remove the bulb and rotate it 180 degrees from its former position, then reinsert it into the bulb socket.

  1. Insert the light bulb into the socket and, while depressing the bulb, twist it 1/8 turn clockwise until the two pins on the light bulb are properly engaged in the socket.
  2.
  3. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it too is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct if necessary.
  4.
  5. If applicable, install the socket and bulb assembly into the rear of the lens housing; otherwise, install the lens over the bulb.
  6.

Fig. Fig. 4: Simply pull this side marker light bulb straight from its socket

  1. Disengage the bulb and socket assembly from the lens housing.
  2.
  3. Gently grasp the light bulb and pull it straight out of the socket.
  4.

To install:
  1. Before installing the light bulb into the socket, ensure that all electrical contact surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  2.
  3. Line up the base of the light bulb with the socket, then insert the light bulb into the socket until it is fully seated.
  4.
  5. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it too is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
  6.
  7. Install the socket and bulb assembly into the lens housing.
  8.

Dome Light

See Figure 5

Fig. Fig. 5: Disengage the spring clip which retains one tapered end of this dome light bulb, then withdraw the bulb

  1. Using a small prytool, carefully remove the cover lens from the lamp assembly.
  2.
  3. Remove the bulb from its retaining clip contacts. If the bulb has tapered ends, gently depress the spring clip/metal contact and disengage the light bulb, then pull it free of the two metal contacts.
  4.

To install:
  1. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  2.
  3. Position the bulb between the two metal contacts. If the contacts have small holes, be sure that the tapered ends of the bulb are situated in them.
  4.
  5. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
  6.
  7. Install the cover lens until its retaining tabs are properly engaged.
  8.
