REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts.
  2.
  3. Raise and support the rear end safely.
  4.
  5. Remove the screw that attaches the trailing shoe key to the anchor plate.
  6.
  7. Press the caliper assembly against the leading key (this is the thinner of the two keys) and slide the trailing shoe key outward. To remove the caliper, swing the front end of the caliper up and away from the anchor plate rail. After the keys are removed, the caliper should be free.
  8.
  9. Once the caliper is free, disconnect the brake hose. Plug the end of the hose to prevent excess loss of fluid. The hose need not be disconnected if you are replacing the brakes. Support the caliper assembly with a piece of wire. Support in a manner that will allow you to work on the brake pads.
  10.
  11. Remove the brake shoes.
  12.

To install:
  1. Install the brake shoes and connect the brake hose.
  2.
  3. Raise the caliper into position, and install the leading shoe key (the thinner key) on the anchor plate rail nearer the rear of the vehicle. Make sure the key is properly positioned and installed on the surface of the anchor plate rail.
  4.
  5. Reposition the caliper so that the piston and hose are facing to the inboard side of the vehicle.
  6.
  7. Seat the "V" of the shoes against the leading shoe key while both shoes are straddling the rotor disc. Position the assembly to compress the leading shoe key spring and swing the caliper down past the anchor plate rail. Align the "V"s of the shoes and the anchor plate rail. Then, slide the trailing shoe key inboard until it is fully seated. Install the trailing shoe key screw to hold it in place. Tighten the caliper mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  8.
  9. Mount the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
  10.
  11. Refill the master cylinder reservoir. Bleed the system. Pump the brake pedal several times to set the pads.
