  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Pull off the horn cover at the center of the wheel by grasping the upper edge for Excel and prying off at the lower edge for Scoupe. Then, disconnect the horn wire connector.

  3. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut. Matchmark the relationship between the wheel and shaft.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering wheel dynamic dampener.
  6.  
  7. Screw the 2 bolts of a steering wheel puller into the wheel. Then, turn the bolt at the center of the puller to force the wheel off the steering shaft. Do not pound on the wheel to remove it or the collapsible steering shaft may be damaged.
  8.  

To install:
  1. The steering wheel can be pushed onto the shaft splines by hand far enough to start the retaining nut. Install the retaining nut and torque it to 26-32 ft. lbs. (34-44 Nm).

Elantra and Sonata
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screws from the back of the horn pad and lift it off.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the horn wire connector.
  6.  
  7. Pull the dynamic damper forward and off.
  8.  
  9. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut. Matchmark the relationship between the wheel and shaft.
  10.  
  11. Screw the 2 bolts of a steering wheel puller into the wheel. Then, turn the bolt at the center of the puller to force the wheel off the steering shaft. Do not pound on the wheel to remove it or the collapsible steering shaft may be damaged.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the steering wheel to the shaft aligning the matchmarks made during removal.
  2.  
  3. Install and tighten the retainer nut to 29-36 ft. lbs. (39-49 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the dynamic damper and horn pad to the steering shaft. Make sure to connect the horn wire to the pad prior to installation.
  6.  
  7. Fasten the horn pad to the wheel and reconnect the negative battery cable.
