  1. Ensure the ignition is off.
  2.  
  3. Perform a visual inspection of the coil. If the resin portion of the coil is cracked or oil is leaking from the coil, the coil is defective and should be replaced.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the coil electrical harness and high tension wire.
  6.  
  7. Using an ohmmeter, measure the coil primary resistance between the positive and negative terminals of the coil electrical harness. Resistance should be 0.45-0.55 ohms for Scoupe and 0.72-0.88 ohms for all others.
  8.  
  9. Measure the coil secondary resistance between the positive terminal of the coil electrical harness and the coil high tension terminal. Resistance should be 10.9-13.3 kilo-ohms.
  10.  
  11. If resistance is not within specification or the test results in an open or shorted circuit, replace the coil.
  12.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the coil wire.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the coil electrical harness.
  6.  
  7. Remove the coil mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Carefully remove the coil from the intake manifold.
  10.  
  11. Perform a visual inspection of the coil. If the resin portion of the coil is cracked or oil is leaking from the coil, the coil is defective and should be replaced.
  12.  

To Install:
  1. Position the coil on the intake manifold.
  2.  
  3. Install the mounting bolts and tighten to 9-11 ft. lbs. (12-15 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the coil electrical harness.
  6.  
  7. Connect the coil wire.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.
