Three Pin Connector

Fig. Fig. 1: On the three pin power transistor connector, connect the power source to terminals 1-2 and check for continuity at terminals 2-3

  1. Disconnect the power transistor electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Connect the negative terminal of a 3 volt power supply (battery) to terminal 2 of the power transistor.
  4.  
  5. Connect the positive terminals of a 3 volt power supply to terminal 1 of the power transistor.
  6.  
  7. Connect an ohmmeter across terminals 2 and 3 of the power transistor connector.
  8.  
  9. With 3 volts applied, there should be continuity between terminals 2 and 3 of the power transistor connector.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the 3 volt power supply from the power transistor connector.
  12.  
  13. Check for continuity again. Continuity should not exist.
  14.  
  15. If the power transistor does not respond as stated, it should be replaced.
  16.  

Four Pin Connector

  1. Disconnect the power transistor electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Connect the negative terminal of a 3 volt power supply (battery) to terminal 1 of the power transistor.
  4.  
  5. Connect the positive terminals of a 3 volt power supply to terminal 4 of the power transistor.
  6.  
  7. Connect an ohmmeter across terminals 1 and 3 of the power transistor connector.
  8.  
  9. With 3 volts applied, there should be continuity between terminals 1 and 3 of the power transistor connector.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the 3 volt power supply from the power transistor connector.
  12.  
  13. Check for continuity again. Continuity should not exist.
  14.  
  15. If the power transistor does not respond as stated, it should be replaced.
  16.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the power transistor electrical harness.
  4.  
  5. Remove the power transistor mounting bolts.
  6.  
  7. Carefully remove the power transistor from the engine.
  8.  

To Install:
  1. Install the power transistor on the engine.
  2.  
  3. Install the mounting bolt and tighten to securely.
  4.  
  5. Connect the power transistor electrical harness.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.
