Timing Belt Cover

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Except 3.0L (VIN T) Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine undercover, as required.
  4.  

On some engines, it is necessary to remove the side engine mount for clearance.

  1. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper and lower timing belt covers.
  6.  

To Install:
  1. Install the upper and lower timing belt covers. Tighten cover bolts to 7-8 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
  4.  
  5. Install and tension the accessory drive belts.
  6.  
  7. Install the engine undercover, as required.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

3.0L (VIN T) Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine undercover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air conditioner compressor tension pulley assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the tension pulley bracket.
  10.  
  11. Using the proper equipment, slightly raise the engine to take the weight off of the side engine mount.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the power steering pump pressure switch connector. Move the power steering pump and wire aside.
  14.  
  15. Remove the engine support bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  18.  
  19. Remove the timing belt cover cap.
  20.  
  21. Remove the timing belt upper and lower covers.
  22.  

To install:
  1. Install the timing covers and tighten to 7-8 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  2.  

Make sure all pieces of packing are positioned in the inner grooves of the covers when installing.

  1. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  2.  
  3. Install the engine support bracket.
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering pump and reconnect wire harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the engine mounting bracket and remove the engine support fixture.
  8.  
  9. Install the tension pulleys and drive belts.
  10.  
  11. Install the engine undercover.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.
