  1. Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the ball joint at the lower end of the strut.
  4.  
  5. Install the nut back onto the ball stud.
  6.  
  7. Using an inch lbs. torque wrench, measure the torque required to start the ball joint rotating. Specification is 1.4-7.0 ft. lbs. (2.0-9.5 Nm).
  8.  
  9. If torque is within specification, the ball joint is functional.
  10.  
  11. If torque is higher than specification, the joint is faulty.
  12.  
  13. If torque is below specification, the joint may be reused provided its rotation is smooth and even.
  14.  
  15. If the joint exhibits any roughness or play, it is faulty and should be replaced.
  16.  
  17. Inspect the dust cover for cracks and check all bolts for straightness. Replace any damaged components.
  18.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Bolt On Type
  1. Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the stabilizer bar from the lower arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the ball joint-to-steering knuckle nut and separate the ball joint from the knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the ball joint-to-lower arm mounting bolts and remove the joint from the arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the dust cover from the ball joint.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Lubricate the ball joint with grease and install dust cover.
  2.  
  3. Install the joint to the lower arm. Tighten the ball joint mounting bolts to 69-87 ft. lbs. (95-120 Nm)..
  4.  
  5. Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle and tighten nut to 43-52 ft. lbs. (60-72 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the stabilizer bar from the lower arm.
  8.  
  9. Install the front wheel.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle
  12.

  1. Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower arm from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the ball joint dust cover.
  8.  
  9. Using a special tools (PN 09221-21000, 09545-11000A and 09545-11000B), press the ball joint from the control arm.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Apply grease to the lip of the control arm and to the ball joint contact surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Place the ball joint in the control arm.
  4.  
  5. Using a special tools (PN 09545-11000A and 09545-11000B), press the ball joint into the control arm.
  6.  

The ball joint must be pressed evenly into the control arm.

  1. Install a new dust cover on the ball joint.
  2.  
  3. Install the control arm assembly into the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the ball joint-to-steering knuckle retaining nut to 43-52 ft. lbs. (60-72 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the front wheel.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.
