REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Excel, Scoupe and Accent

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  4.  
  5. Remove rear roll stopper bolts and rear roll bracket assembly mounting bolt.
  6.  
  7. Pull the rear roll bracket assembly forward.
  8.  

Do not disconnect the center member assembly.

  1. Loosen the stabilizer link bolt, then separate the bar from the lower arm.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the stabilizer bar mounting bolts through the steering gear box access opening provided on the body.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar through the access opening.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper and lower brackets and remove the bushing.
  8.  

To Install:
  1. Install the bushing to the stabilizer bar.
  2.  

Align the upper and lower brackets with the bushing. Ensure the projections are securely in the space between the brackets.

Distinguish the side the fixtures are to be installed by locating the identification marks stamped on each; R will denote the right side and L will denote the left side fixture. They are not the same and should be installed as labeled.

  1. Using the access opening, temporarily tighten the bushing brackets, then position the opposite side bushing.
  2.  
  3. Securely tighten the stabilizer bar mounts to 12-19 ft. lbs. (17-26 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer link to the lower arm making sure that the stabilizer bar mounting spacer, bushing and cup are aligned properly. Tighten the link bolt lock nut until 0.945-1.024 in. (22-26 mm) of the bolt threads are showing through the lower arm.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear roll bracket assembly.
  8.  
  9. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer link self locking nut.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer bar through the access opening.
  8.  
  9. Detach the upper and the lower fixtures; then remove the bushings.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the bushings onto the bar. Align the upper and the lower fixtures with the bushings making sure the projections are securely in the space between the fixtures.
  2.  

Distinguish the side the fixtures are to be installed by locating the identification marks stamped on each; R will denote the right side and L will denote the left side fixture. They are not the same and should be installed as labeled.

  1. Using the access opening, install the rod to the vehicle. Temporarily tighten the bushing fixtures. Final tightening torque is 12-19 ft. lbs. (17-26 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the stabilizer bar link and tighten the self locking nuts to 25-33 ft. lbs. (34-45 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  

Sonata

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the stabilizer bar brackets from the crossmember.
  4.  
  5. Lower the rear of the center member and lower the stabilizer bar.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the end links and remove the stabilizer.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Connect the end links and tighten the nuts to 43-51 ft. lbs. (60-70 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer bar and raise the rear of the center member.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer bar brackets and tighten securely.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.
