Fuel Filter

Print

The fuel filter is an inline canister type. It should be replaced every 52,000 miles (84,000 km). On all vehicles except Sonata, the fuel filter is located on the firewall, adjacent to the master cylinder. On Sonata, the fuel filter is located at the rear of the vehicle, mounted to the floor pan in front of the fuel tank.

FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF

The fuel injection system is under constant pressure even when the engine is not running. This residual pressure must be relieved from the fuel system before servicing.

Accent, Elantra, Sonata and Tiburon

See Figure 2

The fuel pump connector is located at the fuel tank sending unit on top of the fuel tank. The connector is accessible through a door located under the rear seat.

  1. Remove the rear seat cushion.
  2.
  3. Disengage the fuel pump harness connector at the fuel tank sending unit.
  4.
  5. Start the engine and allow it to run until it stalls.
  6.
  7. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  10.
