Power Steering Rack

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Turn the wheels to the straight ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove all components necessary to gain access to the rack.
  8.  
  9. Drain the fluid from the power steering system.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect and plug the fluid hoses.
  12.  
  13. Matchmark the steering shaft to the pinion.
  14.  
  15. Remove the steering shaft-to-pinion coupling bolt.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
  18.  
  19. Remove the clamps securing the rack to the crossmember.
  20.  
  21. Remove the rack from the vehicle.
  22.  

To install:
  1. Install the rubber mount for the rack and pinion with the slit on the downside.
  2.  
  3. Install the rack from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the clamps securing the rack to the crossmember. Tighten bolts to 44-59 ft. lbs. (60-80 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the steering shaft-to-pinion coupling bolt and tighten to 11-14 ft. lbs. (15-19 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles.
  10.  
  11. Connect the fluid hoses and tighten fittings to 9-13 ft. lbs. (12-18 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install all components previously removed to gain access to the rack.
  14.  
  15. Install the wheels.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Fill the power steering system with fluid.
  20.  
  21. Bleed the power steering system.
  22.
