Operation

This sensor is a resistor-based sensor, which detects the intake air temperature. According to the intake air temperature reading the ECM/PCM will control the necessary amount of fuel injection.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.
  5. Remove the sensor retaining screws, as required.
  6.
  7. Remove the air cleaner and air intake assembly, as required.
  8.
  9. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  10.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.

Testing

2.4L Engine
  1. Allow the engine coolant to reach 176-198 degrees F.
  2.
  3. Using a voltmeter check the sensor output voltage.
  4.
  5. Specification should be 0.5 volt at idle, 1.0 volt at 2000 rpm.
  6.
  7. If the measured value is not within specification, replace the sensor.
  8.

2.7L Engine
  1. Remove the sensor connector.
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4.
  5. Measure the voltage between the sensor terminal 1 and 2.
  6.
  7. Specification should be 4.3 volts at 32 degrees F. and 3.44 volts at 68 degrees F.
  8.
  9. Replace the sensor, as required.
  10.

  1. Remove the sensor connector.
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4.
  5. Measure the voltage between the sensor terminal 1 and 2.
  6.
  7. Specification should be 3.52-3.90 volts at 32 degrees F. and 2.63-2.92 volts at 68 degrees F.
  8.
  9. Replace the sensor, as required.
  10.

3.5L Engine
  1. Be sure the engine is at operating temperature.
  2.
  3. Remove the sensor connector.
  4.
  5. Measure the output voltage.
  6.
  7. Specification should be 1.1-1.8 volt at idle and 3.0-3.5 volts at 2100 rpm at WOT (Drive).
  8.
  9. Replace the sensor, as required.
  10.
