Removal & Installation



2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan bolts, note the bolts length and location.
  8.  
  9. Tap the oil pan with a rubber mallet and remove the upper and lower pan components.
  10.  
  11. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Apply 0.16 inch (4mm) of sealant to the oil pan groove as illustrated. Install the within 15 minutes of sealant installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper and lower oil pans and the bolts making sure the proper length is installed in its original position. Tighten the bolt in sequence to 7-9 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Refill the crankcase with oil.
  8.

  7. Remove the oil pan bolts, note the bolts length and location.
  8.

To install:

  1. Apply 0.16 inch (4mm) of sealant to the oil pan groove as illustrated. Install the within 15 minutes of sealant installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper and lower oil pans and the bolts making sure the proper length is installed in its original position. Tighten the bolt in sequence to 7-9 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Refill the crankcase with oil.

2.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Lower oil pan bolts and the pan
     
    Upper oil pan bolts and the pan
     

  6.  
  7. Clean the gasket mating surfaces
  8.  

To install:

  1. Apply 0.16 inch (4mm) of sealant to the lower oil pan groove. Install the pan within 15 minutes of sealant installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper oil pan and the tighten the bolts in sequence as follows:
    1. 0.937 x 1.4961 inch (10 x 38mm) bolt to 22-30 ft. lbs. (30-42 Nm).
    2.  
    3. 0.3150 x 0.866a inch (8 x 22mm) bolt 14-20 inch (19-28 Nm).
    4.  
    5. 6.7519 inch (171.5mm) bolt to 4-5 ft. lbs. (5-7 Nm).
    6.  
    7. 6.7520 inch (152.5mm) bolt to 4-5 ft. lbs. (5-7 Nm).
    8.

  5. Install the lower pan and tighten the bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Refill the crankcase with oil.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Lower oil pan bolts and the pan
     
    Upper oil pan bolts and the pan

  7. Clean the gasket mating surfaces
  8.  

To install:

  1. Apply 0.16 inch (4mm) of sealant to the lower oil pan groove. Install the pan within 15 minutes of sealant installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper oil pan and the tighten the bolts in sequence as follows:
    1. 0.937 x 1.4961 inch (10 x 38mm) bolt to 22-30 ft. lbs. (30-42 Nm).
    2.  
    3. 0.3150 x 0.866a inch (8 x 22mm) bolt 14-20 inch (19-28 Nm).
    4.  
    5. 6.7519 inch (171.5mm) bolt to 4-5 ft. lbs. (5-7 Nm).
    6.  
    7. 6.7520 inch (152.5mm) bolt to 4-5 ft. lbs. (5-7 Nm).
    8.

  5. Install the lower pan and tighten the bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Refill the crankcase with oil.

3.5L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pressure switch.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower oil pan bolts and the pan.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper oil pan bolts and the pan.
  12.  
  13. Clean the gasket mating surfaces
  14.  

To install:

  1. Apply 0.16 inch (4mm) of sealant to the lower oil pan groove. Install the pan within 15 minutes of sealant installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper oil pan and the tighten the bolts in sequence as follows:
    1. 0.7087 inch (6 x 18mm), 6.004 inch (6 x 152.5mm) bolts identified with either * or ** in the illustration to 4-5 ft. lbs. (5-7 Nm).
    2.  
    3. 1.4961 inch (10 x 38mm) bolts identified with *** in the illustration to 22-30 ft. lbs. (30-42 Nm).

  5. Install the lower pan and tighten the bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Coat the oil pressure switch threads with Three bond No. 1104E sealant and tighten to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Refill the crankcase with oil.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pressure switch.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  9. Remove the lower oil pan bolts and the pan.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper oil pan bolts and the pan.
  12.  
  13. Clean the gasket mating surfaces
  14.  

To install:

  1. Apply 0.16 inch (4mm) of sealant to the lower oil pan groove. Install the pan within 15 minutes of sealant installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper oil pan and the tighten the bolts in sequence as follows:
    1. 0.7087 inch (6 x 18mm), 6.004 inch (6 x 152.5mm) bolts identified with either * or ** in the illustration to 4-5 ft. lbs. (5-7 Nm).

  5. Install the lower pan and tighten the bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).

  7. Coat the oil pressure switch threads with Three bond No. 1104E sealant and tighten to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).

  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Refill the crankcase with oil.
