Idle Speed Control Actuator (ISCA)

Print

Location

The ISCA is installed on the intake manifold.

Operation

The idle speed control actuator maintains idle speed according to various engine loads and conditions. This component also provides additional air during startup. It consists of an opening coil, a closing coil and a permanent magnet. According to the control signals from the ECM, the valve rotor rotates to control the bypass air flow into the engine.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the component.
  4.
  5. Remove the retaining screws.
  6.
  7. Remove the component from its mounting.
  8.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.

Testing

2.0L Engine
  1. Disconnect the connector.
  2.
  3. Measure the resistance between terminal 1 and 2 (component side); specification should be 11.1-12.7 ohms.
  4.
  5. Measure the resistance between terminal 2 and 3 (component side); specification should be 14.5-16.1 ohms.
  6.
  7. If the component is operating properly, check for poor connection, damage or deterioration.
  8.
  9. If not, substitute the sensor with a known good component, check for proper operation. If problem corrected replace the component.
  10.

2.7L Engine
  1. Disconnect the connector.
  2.
  3. Measure the resistance between terminal 1 and 2 (component side); specification should be 15.0-16.2 ohms.
  4.
  5. Measure the resistance between terminal 2 and 3 (component side); specification should be 17.0-18.2 ohms.
  6.
  7. If the component is operating properly, check for poor connection, damage or deterioration.
  8.
  9. If not, substitute the sensor with a known good component, check for proper operation. If problem corrected replace the component.
