Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor

Print

Location

This sensor is located in the air intake plenum assembly. This sensor is combined with the MAF sensor.

Operation

This sensor is a resistor based sensor which detects the intake air temperature. According to the intake air temperature reading the ECM will control the necessary amount of fuel injection.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.
  5. Remove the sensor retaining screws, as required.
  6.
  7. Remove the air cleaner and air intake assembly, as required.
  8.
  9. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  10.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.

Testing

2.0L Engine
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the sensor connector.
  4.
  5. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 5 (component side).
  6.
  7. Specification should be 2.35-3.54 kohms at 68 degrees F.
  8.
  9. If within specification, check for poor connection between the PCM and the component.
  10.
  11. If not, substitute the sensor with a known good component, check for proper operation. If problem corrected replace the sensor.
  12.

2.7L Engine
  1. Remove the sensor connector.
  2.
  3. Measure the voltage between the sensor terminal 1 and 2.
  4.
  5. Specification should be 2.35-2.54 volts at 68 degrees F.
  6.
  7. Replace the sensor, as required.
  8.
