Ignition Coil 'A' Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the Ignition Coil 'A' primary circuit.

Possible Causes:



Ignition Coil 'A' primary circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Ignition Coil 'A' power circuit is open (test power from I/P fuse)
 
Ignition Coil 'A' is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0352

Ignition Coil 'B' Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the Ignition Coil 'B' primary circuit.

Possible Causes:



Ignition Coil 'B' primary circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Ignition Coil 'B' power circuit is open (test power from I/P fuse)
 
Ignition Coil 'B' is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

Ignition Coil 'C' Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the Ignition Coil 'C' primary circuit.

Possible Causes:



Ignition Coil 'C' primary circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Ignition Coil 'C' power circuit is open (test power from I/P fuse)
 
Ignition Coil 'C' is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

Ignition Coil 'D' Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the Ignition Coil 'D' primary circuit.

Possible Causes:



Ignition Coil 'D' primary circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Ignition Coil 'D' power circuit is open (test power from I/P fuse)
 
Ignition Coil 'D' is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

Ignition Coil 'E' Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the Ignition Coil 'E' primary circuit.

Possible Causes:



Ignition Coil 'E' primary circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Ignition Coil 'E' power circuit is open (test power from I/P fuse)
 
Ignition Coil 'E' is damaged or has failed

Ignition Coil 'F' Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the Ignition Coil 'F' primary circuit.

Possible Causes:



Ignition Coil 'F' primary circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Ignition Coil 'F' power circuit is open (test power from I/P fuse)
 
Ignition Coil 'F' is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0420

Catalyst Efficiency Below Normal (Bank 1)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, vehicle driven at a speed of 45-60 mph for 8-10 minutes in closed loop, and the PCM detected the rear HO2S-12 switch rate was similar to the front HO2S-11 switch rate for over 3 seconds under these conditions during the Catalyst Monitor test.

Possible Causes:



Air leaks at the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust pipes
 
Catalytic converter is contaminated, damaged or has failed
 
Front HO2S is older (aged) than the rear HO2S (HO2S is lazy)
 
Front HO2S or rear HO2S is contaminated with fuel or moisture
 

Trouble Code: P0430

Catalyst Efficiency Below Normal (Bank 2)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, vehicle driven at a speed of 45-60 mph for 8 minutes in closed loop, and the PCM detected the rear HO2S-22 switch rate was similar to the front HO2S-21 switch rate for over 3 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Air leaks at the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust pipes
 
Catalytic converter is contaminated, damaged or has failed
 
Front HO2S is older (aged) than the rear HO2S (HO2S is lazy)
 
Front HO2S or rear HO2S is contaminated with fuel or moisture
 

Trouble Code: P0441

EVAP System Incorrect Purge Flow (Stuck Open)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, vehicle driven at a speed of 35-40 for 5-10 minutes under light engine load conditions, then with the Purge solenoid commanded "on" and then "off", the PCM detected the Purge solenoid valve remained "open" during the EVAP Monitor flow test. Note: This is a "functionality" test of the EVAP system (flow test).

Possible Causes:



Charcoal canister is damaged, clogged or restricted
 
Purge solenoid control circuit open, shorted to ground or power
 
Purge solenoid power circuit is open (check the relay or fuse)
 
Purge valve vacuum line is clogged or contains water or debris
 
Fuel filler cap loose, cross-threaded, incorrect part or damaged
 
Fuel tank or fuel tank sender assembly 'O' ring is leaking
 
Fuel tank vapor line(s) blocked, damaged or disconnected
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0442

EVAP System Large Leak (0.040") Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: Cold startup requirement met (ECT sensor from 14-90ºF and the IAT sensor more than 14ºF), engine started, vehicle driven at a speed of over 20 mph, and the PCM detected a leak (from 0.040 to 0.080) somewhere in the EVAP system during the EVAP Monitor test.

Possible Causes:



Canister Purge valve is damaged, leaking or it has failed
 
Charcoal canister is loaded with fuel or moisture
 
Fuel filler cap loose, cross-threaded, incorrect part or damaged
 
Fuel tank is cracked (leaking), or a leak exists in the 'O' ring
 
Fuel tank pressure sensor is damaged or has failed
 
Fuel vapor line(s), fuel pipes or hoses damaged or leaking
 
Purge solenoid or vent solenoid damaged, leaking or sticking
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0443

EVAP Purge Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the Purge solenoid circuit during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



Purge solenoid control circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Purge solenoid power circuit is open (check the power source)
 
Purge control solenoid is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

EVAP Purge Solenoid Circuit Malfunction (Open)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running at idle speed, and the PCM detected an unexpected "low" voltage condition on the EVAP Purge solenoid circuit as the solenoid was commanded "on" and "off" in the test.

Possible Causes:



Purge solenoid control circuit open between solenoid and PCM
 
Purge solenoid power circuit is open (check the power source)
 
Purge control solenoid is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

EVAP Purge Solenoid Circuit Malfunction (Shorted)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running at idle speed, and the PCM detected an unexpected "high" voltage condition on the EVAP Purge solenoid circuit as the solenoid was commanded "on" and "off" in the test.

Possible Causes:



Purge solenoid control circuit is shorted to system power
 
Purge control solenoid is damaged or has failed (short circuit)
 
PCM has failed

EVAP Vent Control Solenoid Circuit Performance (Closed)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running at cruise speed for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the EVAP Vent Control solenoid was in a "closed" position continuously during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



Vent solenoid control circuit is shorted to ground
 
Vent solenoid power circuit is open (check the power source)
 
Vent control solenoid is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

EVAP Vent Solenoid Circuit Short To Ground Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running at cruise speed for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the EVAP Vent Control solenoid control circuit was in a continuous "low" state during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



Purge solenoid control circuit is shorted to ground
 
Purge solenoid power circuit is open (check the power source)
 
Purge solenoid is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0448

EVAP Vent Solenoid Circuit Shorted To Power Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running at cruise speed for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the EVAP Vent Control solenoid control circuit was in a continuous "high" state during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



Purge solenoid control circuit is shorted to system power
 
Purge solenoid is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0449

EVAP Emission System- Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit

Trouble Code Conditions: The PCM measures pressure in the fuel tank, by means of a sensor during all engine operating conditions, except start and stop. If pressure is lower than threshold (less than 1.6L volts), a DTC is set. Monitoring CCV stuck closed.

Possible Causes:



Canister air filter contamination
 
Faulty CCV
 

Trouble Code: P0451

EVAP Pressure Sensor Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running with the vehicle not moving, VSV for the EVAP Vapor sensor commanded "on", and the PCM detected the EVAP pressure sensor signal was not plausible during the test. Note: This condition (code) can be due to a fuel sloshing condition.

Possible Causes:



Pressure sensor vacuum hoses loose or damaged
 
Pressure sensor is damaged or out-of-calibration
 
VSV for the EVAP pressure sensor is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0452

EVAP Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine runtime over 5 seconds, and the PCM detected an unexpected "low" voltage condition on the EVAP Pressure sensor circuit during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



Pressure sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
 
Pressure sensor power (VREF) circuit is open
 
Pressure sensor is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0453

EVAP Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine runtime over 5 seconds, and the PCM detected an unexpected "low" voltage condition on the EVAP Pressure sensor circuit during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



Pressure sensor signal circuit is shorted to power
 
Pressure sensor ground circuit open between sensor and PCM
 
Pressure sensor is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0454

EVAP Emission System- Pressure Sensor Intermittent

Trouble Code Conditions: The PCM measures pressure stability in the fuel tank, by means of a sensor for a predetermined duration. If fluctuation is larger than predetermined threshold a DTC is set. Sensor signal noise check.

Possible Causes:



Contact resistance in connectors
 
Faulty FTPS
 

Trouble Code: P0455

EVAP System Large Leak (0.080") Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0443 not set, engine started, ECT sensor more than 185ºF, IAT sensor from 14-122ºF, fuel level from 25-75%, engine running at cruise speed, and the PCM detected a large change in the fuel tank pressure (due to a large leak) during the EVAP Monitor leak test.

Possible Causes:



Canister vent (CV) solenoid may be stuck in open position
 
EVAP canister tube, EVAP canister purge outlet tube or EVAP return tube disconnected or cracked, or canister is damaged
 
EVAP canister purge valve stuck closed, or canister damaged
 
Fuel filler cap missing, loose (not tightened) or the wrong part
 
Fuel vapor hoses/tubes blocked or restricted, or fuel vapor control valve tube or fuel vapor vent valve assembly blocked
 
Fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor has failed (mechanical fault)

EVAP Emission System- Leak Detected (Very Small)

Trouble Code Conditions: Monitoring the tank pressure sensor (DTP) signal with under pressure.

Leakage in EVAP system line
 
Faulty CCV, PCSV or FTPS

Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Filtered and unfiltered signal of fuel sensor are monitored.

Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: If the sensor output voltage is higher than 4.96 volts or output voltage is less than 0.039 volt for 300 seconds, when the engine speed is not 0 miles. Output voltage (VFLS) is monitored.

Possible Causes:



Poor connection
 
Faulty fuel level sensor
 
Short to battery in fuel level (FLS) circuit
 
Faulty fuel level circuit (FLS)

Trouble Code: P0463

Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit high Input

Trouble Code Conditions: If the sensor output voltage is less than 0.02 volt, or output voltage is less than 0.039 volt for 300 seconds, when the engine speed is not 0 miles. Output voltage (VFLS) is monitored.

Possible Causes:



Short to battery in fuel level (FLS) circuit
 
Faulty fuel level sensor
 
Faulty PCM
 

Trouble Code: P0464

Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit Intermittent

Trouble Code Conditions: Check signal for fluctuation. The ECM sets the DTC if the fuel level signal is higher than the threshold value (signal fluctuation greater than 50 percent).

Possible Causes:



Contact resistance in connectors
 
Short to battery in fuel level (FLS) circuit

Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Vehicle driven with the engine speed over 2000 rpm in Drive, engine load from 2-3 ms, and the PCM did not detect any VSS signals.

Possible Causes:



VSS signal circuit from the sensor to the I/P Cluster to the PCM is open, shorted to ground or to system power
 
VSS (Magnetic) signal (+) or (-) circuit is open or shorted
 
VSS (Magnetic) is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0506

Idle Speed Lower Than Expected

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running at idle speed under these conditions: IAT sensor less than 114ºF during the last ignition cycle, Long Term fuel trim from -8% to +8%, ECT sensor more than 176ºF, IAT sensor more than 14ºF, system voltage over 10.0 volts, and the PCM detected the Actual idle speed was over 200 rpm lower than the Target idle speed for 10 seconds during the CCM Rationality test. Power steering pressure switch signal indicating "off", engine load less than 40%, IAT sensor more than 14ºF, and the PCM detected the Actual idle speed was over 120 rpm lower than the Target idle speed for 10 seconds during the CCM Rationality test.

Possible Causes:



ISC motor "open" circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
ISC motor "close" circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
ISC motor is damaged or has failed
 
PCM is damaged
 

Trouble Code: P0507

Idle Speed Higher Than Expected

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine at idle speed in closed loop, and under these conditions: Condition 1 - IAT sensor input less than 114ºF during last drive cycle, Long Term fuel trim from -8% to +8%, ECT sensor input more than 176ºF, IAT sensor input more than 14ºF, system voltage over 10.0 volts, and the PCM detected the Actual idle speed was more than 200 rpm higher than the Target idle speed for 10 seconds. Condition 2 - Power steering pressure switch signal indicating "off", engine load less than 40%, IAT sensor input more than 14ºF, and the PCM detected the Actual idle speed was more than 120 rpm higher than the Target idle speed for 10 seconds.

Possible Causes:



ISC motor control circuit(s) open or shorted to ground
 
ISC motor is damaged or has failed
 
PCM is damaged
 

Trouble Code: P0551

Power Steering Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: If a power steering switch signal is ON when the engine speed is more than 2500 rpm, load value is grater than 55 percent and engine coolant temperature is above 50 degrees F, the DTC will set. Signal of power steering pressure switch is monitored.

Possible Causes:



Poor connection
 
Faulty power steering switch
 
Open or short in power steering switch
 
Faulty PCM

System Voltage Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started engine running at idle or cruise speed, and the PCM detected an unexpected low voltage condition on the ignition circuit.

Generator is damaged or has failed (generator output too low)
 
PCM has failed

System Voltage High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started engine running at idle or cruise speed, and the PCM detected an unexpected high voltage condition on the ignition circuit.

Possible Causes:



Generator is damaged or has failed (generator output to high)

CAN Communication Bus

Trouble Code Conditions: CAN message transfer incorrect.

Trouble Code: P0605

PCM (Internal Controller) ROM Error

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on for 1 second, and the PCM detected an internal ROM error occurred during the initial Self-Test.

Possible Causes:



Clear the trouble codes and retest for this trouble code. If the same trouble code resets, the PCM has failed and must be replaced to repair this problem.
 

Trouble Code: P0630

VIN Not Programmed Or Incompatible- ECM/PCMECM

Trouble Code Conditions: PCM internal check. Enable condition, ignition ON. VIN does not exist in boot area.

Possible Causes:



PCM is new and has not yet been programmed
 

Trouble Code: P0650

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC is set if the PCM detects that the MIL line is open or shorted to ground or battery line. Driver stage check.

Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit High (Bank 1) Solenoid Type
