Removal & Installation



2.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine from the vehicle and separate from the transaxle.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine to an engine stand.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil pan.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Using liquid gasket MS 721-40A or equivalent, apply an even bead along the groove in the oil pan.
  2.  
  3. Install the oil pan with the 19 bolts. Uniformly tighten the bolts in several passes to 7.2-8.8 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
  6.  
  7. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  8.  
  9. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
  10.  

2.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine from the vehicle and separate from the transaxle.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine to an engine stand.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower oil pan.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil screen.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper oil pan.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Using liquid gasket MS 721-40A or equivalent, apply an even bead along the groove in the upper oil pan.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper oil pan. Tighten the bolts uniformly in several passes as follows:
    1. Tighten bolts 1-15 to 14-20 ft. lbs. (19-28 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tighten bolts 16 and 17 to 4-5 ft. lbs. (5-7 Nm).

  5. Install the oil screen. Tighten the mounting bolts to 11-16 ft. lbs. (15-22 Nm).

  7. Using liquid gasket MS 721-40A or equivalent, apply an even bead along the groove in the lower oil pan.
  8.  
  9. Install the lower oil pan and tighten the bolts uniformly in several passes to 7.3-8.8 ft. lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  10.  
  11. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
  12.  
  13. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  14.  
  15. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
