The Throttle Control Actuator (TAC) includes a throttle control motor and throttle position sensor. The throttle control motor is operated by the ECM and it opens and closes the throttle valve. The throttle position sensor detects the throttle valve position, the opening and closing speed of the throttle valve, and feeds the voltage signals to the ECM. The ECM judges the current opening angle of the throttle valve from these signals and the ECM controls the throttle control motor to make the throttle valve angle to the proper opening in response to driving conditions.

Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning

Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning is an operation to learn the fully released position of the accelerator pedal by monitoring the accelerator pedal position sensor output signal, if equipped. This procedure must be performed each time the harness connector of the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor or the ECM is disconnected.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is in the fully released position.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch ON and wait at least 2 seconds.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
  8.  
  9. Turn the ignition switch ON and wait at least 2 seconds.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
  12.  
  13. The accelerator pedal released position should be acquired.

Idle Air Volume Learning
Preparation For Procedure

Specific to:

Infiniti G20 1996, 1999-2002

Infiniti G35 2003-2005

Idle Air Volume Learning is an operation to learn the idle air volume that keeps each engine within the specified range. It must be performed under any of the following conditions:



Each time the electric throttle control actuator (if equipped) or the ECM is replaced
 
Idle speed or ignition timing is out of specification
 

Before performing Idle Air Volume Learning, make sure that all of the following conditions are satisfied. Learning will be cancelled if any of the following conditions are missed for even a moment:



Battery voltage: More than 12.9 volts (At idle)
 
Engine coolant temperature: 158-210°F (70-99°C)
 
PNP switch: ON
 
Electric load switch: OFF-Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger. On vehicles equipped with daytime light systems, if the parking brake is applied before the engine is started, the headlamps will not be illuminated
 
Steering wheel: Neutral (Straight-ahead position)
 
Vehicle speed: Stopped
 
Transmission: Warmed-up
 

For models with CONSULT-II, drive vehicle until the -ATF TEMP SE 1- in the -DATA MONITOR- mode of the -A/T- system indicates less than 0.9 volts.

For models without CONSULT-II, drive the vehicle for 10 minutes.

With Consult-II

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Perform the Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning.
  4.  
  5. Perform the Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature.
  8.  
  9. Check that all the conditions are met under the section, Preparation For Procedure.
  10.  
  11. Select -IDLE AIR VOL LEARN- in the -WORK SUPPORT- mode.
  12.  
  13. Touch -START- and wait 20 seconds.
  14.  
  15. Make sure that the -CMPLT- is displayed on the CONSULT-II screen. If -CMPLT- is not displayed, Idle Air Volume Learning will not be carried out successfully.
  16.  
  17. Rev up the engine 2-3 times and make sure that the idle speed and ignition timing are within specifications.

NOTE
Within this procedure, count the time accurately with a clock.


NOTE
It is impossible to switch the diagnostic mode when an accelerator pedal position sensor circuit has a malfunction.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Perform the Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning.
  4.  
  5. Perform the Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
  8.  
  9. Check that all the conditions are met under the section, Preparation For Procedure.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
  12.  
  13. Confirm that the accelerator pedal is fully released, turn the ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.
  14.  
  15. Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds:
    1. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
    2.  
    3. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
    4.  

  16.  
  17. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it down for approximately 20 seconds until the MIL stops blinking and remains ON.
  18.  
  19. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL is turned ON.
  20.  
  21. Start the engine and let it idle.
  22.  
  23. Wait 20 seconds.
  24.  
  25. Rev up the engine 2-3 times and make sure that the idle speed and ignition timing are within specifications.

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning is an operation to learn the fully closed position of the throttle valve by monitoring the throttle position sensor output signal. It must be performed each time the harness connector of the electric throttle control actuator (if equipped) or the ECM is disconnected.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is in the fully released position.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
    NOTE
    Make sure that the throttle valve moves during the 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound of the throttle valve.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Using a diagnostic scan tool, check for the presence of any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC-s). Record and address these codes, as necessary.
  4.  
  5. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins (TSB-s) that may apply.
  6.  
  7. Review the scan tool Freeze Frame information. If possible, try to duplicate the conditions under which the DTC set.
  8.  
  9. With the engine running at normal operating temperature, monitor the scan tool parameters related to the DTC while wiggling the wire harness. Look for parameter values to change and/or a DTC to set. Turn the ignition OFF.
  10.  
  11. Visually inspect the related wire harness. Disconnect all the related harness connectors. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires, and broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals. Perform a voltage drop test on the related circuits between the suspected inoperative component and the ECM.
  12.  
  13. Inspect for corrosion or water intrusion. Pierced or damaged insulation can allow moisture to enter the wiring. The conductor can corrode inside the insulation with little visible evidence. Look for swollen and stiff sections of wire in the suspect circuits. Inspect for wires that are broken inside the insulation.
  14.  
  15. Inspect and clean all ECM, engine, and chassis grounds that are related to the most current DTC.
  16.  
  17. If numerous trouble codes were set, use a wire schematic and look for any common ground or supply circuits.
  18.  
  19. For any Relay DTC-s, actuate the Relay with the scan tool and wiggle the related wire harness to try to interrupt the actuation.
  20.  
  21. Remove the intake air duct.
  22.  
  23. Check for foreign matter caught between the throttle valve and the housing.
  24.  
  25. Remove any foreign matter and clean the electric throttle control actuator inside.
