Removal & Installation



Front Cable

Specific to:

Infiniti I30 1996-1997

  1. Remove the center console assembly.
  2.  
  3. Loosen and remove the parking brake cable adjusting nut at the base of the parking brake lever.
  4.  
  5. Under the vehicle, disconnect the parking brake cables at the equalizer.
  6.  
  7. Unbolt the parking brake lever from the center console.
  8.  
  9. Unbolt and remove the front parking brake cable from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the front parking brake cable into the parking brake lever and start the adjusting nut on the front cable.
  2.  
  3. Install the lever and cable assembly into the vehicle. Tighten the mounting bolts.
  4.  
  5. Connect the parking brake cables at the equalizer.
  6.  
  7. Install the center console assembly.
  8.  

Rear Cables

Specific to:

Infiniti I30 1996-1997

  1. Remove the rear wheel and the brake drum or disc assembly.
  2.  
  3. At the cable adjuster, loosen the adjusting nut, then separate the rear cable from the equalizer.
  4.  
  5. On rear drum brakes, remove the brake shoes from the backing plate, then separate the rear cable from the toggle lever.
  6.  
  7. On rear disc brakes, remove the cable retainer and the cable end from the toggle lever.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts that secure the cable to the vehicle under body.
  10.  
  11. Pull the cable through the backing plate and remove it from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. On rear drum brakes, install the brake cable to the vehicle through the backing plate.
  2.  
  3. On rear drum brakes, install the brake shoes with cable attached and the brake drum.
  4.  
  5. On rear disc brakes, connect the cable to the toggle lever and tighten the cable retainer.
  6.  
  7. Install the bolts that secure the cable to the vehicle under body.
  8.  
  9. At the cable equalizer, connect the parking brake cable.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear wheels.
  12.  
  13. Adjust the parking brake cable.
  14.
