Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



2.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the intercooler pump bracket bolts from the oil pan.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower AC compressor bolt from the oil pan.
  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the oil pan.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Make sure that the oil pan and mounting surface on the lower crankcase are free of all oil and debris.
  2.  
  3. Apply a 0.138 inch (3.5 mm) bead of RTV sealer around the perimeter of the oil pan and the oil suction port opening.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pan.
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pan bolts and tighten in sequence to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the AC compressor bolts.
  10.  
  11. Install the intercooler pump bracket bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the engine drive belt.
  14.  
  15. Fill the engine oil to the proper level.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.  

2.2L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Drive belt
     
    Lower A/C compressor bolt
     
    Oil pan bolts
     

  6.  
  7. Using a flat-bladed tool, pry the oil pan from the engine block.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Apply a 0.08 in. (2mm) bead of RTV sealer to the pan flange. Be sure the RTV is applied to the inner side of the flange.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan and torque the bolts in the proper sequence to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
     
    Lower A/C compressor bolt
     
    Drive belt
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
  8.  

2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Drive belt
     
    Lower A/C compressor bolt
     
    Oil pan to transaxle bolts
     
    Oil pan bolts
     

  6.  
  7. Using a flat-bladed tool, pry the oil pan from the engine block.

To install:

  1. Apply a 0.08 in. (2mm) bead of RTV sealer to the pan flange. Be sure the RTV is applied to the inner side of the flange.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan
     
    Oil pan to transaxle bolts and tighten to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm)
     
    Oil pan bolts in the proper sequence to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
     
    Lower A/C compressor bolt
     
    Drive belt
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
  8.
