Brake Switch Circuit High Input

Possible Causes:



Brake switch signal circuit is shorted to power
 
Brake switch is out-of-adjustment
 
Brake switch is loose, damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed

Engine Speed Circuit Low Input

Possible Causes:



CAN bus circuit is open, shorted to ground or shorted to power
 
TCM or PCM has failed

Transaxle Incorrect Gear Ratio Detected

Possible Causes:



A/T manual shift valve connector is disconnected or loose
 
TR switch indicates a forward gear, but the transmission is hydraulically in Neutral gear position

Transaxle - No First Gear Available

Possible Causes:



If any Shift Solenoid performance codes are set (P0781, P0782 or P0783 for 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear stuck "on"), fix the highest gear code first. A gear stuck "on" will cause a loss of 1st Gear.
 
End cover 1st gear hub seal rings may be damaged
 
1st clutch piston may be leaking
 
Input shaft feed tube to end cover may be blocked
 
Servo leak, passage blocked (no oil pressure to 1st gear clutch)
 
1st gear spray failed or 1st gear clutch plates may be worn
 
1st gear shift solenoid is damaged or it has failed

Transaxle - No Second Gear Available

Possible Causes:



If any shift solenoid performance codes are set (P0782 or P0783 for 3rd or 4th gear stuck "on"), fix the highest gear code first. A 3rd or 4th gear stuck "on" will cause a loss of 2nd Gear.
 
3rd or 4th Gear Shift solenoid sticking will cause 3rd or 4th gear to be applied from a standing stop and cause loss of 2nd Gear
 
2nd gear shift solenoid is damaged or it has failed
 
TSB 99-07-30-018 contains a repair procedure for this code
 

Trouble Code: P0733



Transaxle - No Third Gear Available

Possible Causes:



If any shift solenoid performance codes is set (P0783 for 4th gear stuck "on"), fix that trouble code first. A 4th gear stuck "on" condition can cause a loss of 3rd gear, a loss of 4th gear, and the TCC may be stuck in "on" position.
 
4th Gear Shift solenoid sticking will cause 4th gear to be applied from a standing stop and cause a loss of 3rd Gear.
 
3rd gear shift solenoid is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0734



Transaxle - No Fourth Gear Available (AF23-5)

Possible Causes:



Delivery tube busing in the output shaft miss-located or loose
 
Plugged or restricted oil passages or faulty clutch plates
 
Piston seal cut or damaged
 
Output shaft check ball is missing
 
Output shaft seal, Output shaft or 4th clutch 'O' rings damaged
 
4th gear shift solenoid is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0741



TCC System Malfunction (Stuck Off)

Possible Causes:



Converter charge valve is stuck causing the TCC "apply" pressure to be exhausted to the lube circuit
 
Converter limiting valve stuck open
 
Input shaft O-ring or torque converter O-ring leaking
 
TCC apply circuit internal damage or low main line oil pressure
 
Torque converter is damaged or it has failed
 
TSB 99-07-30-018 contains a repair procedure for this code
 

Trouble Code: P0742



TCC System Malfunction (Stuck On)

Possible Causes:



Converter charge valve is stuck or stuck in the bore
 
Input shaft ball is loose
 
Input shaft to stator shaft seals damaged causing the TCC release circuit to leak
 
Input shaft is damaged (solenoid resistance is 3.8-7.2 ohms)
 
Torque converter O-ring damaged or leaking
 
Torque converter is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0748



Transaxle Fluid Line Pressure Too High

Possible Causes:



PCS (solenoid) is damaged or it has failed
 
Pressure regulator it has failed (take the valve body apart to inspect for this problem and replace any necessary parts)
 
PCS control circuit is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed

Transaxle 1-2 Shift Solenoid Performance (Stuck Off)

Possible Causes:



A/T 1-2 shift solenoid is stuck "off"
 
A/T 1-2 shift solenoid valve is plugged

HO2S connector is damaged, open or shorted (check for water)
 
HO2S element is silicon, water or fuel contaminated or it failed
 
PCM has failed

HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Slow Response

Possible Causes:



Exhaust leak present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes

Excessive Crankshaft Variation Symptom

Possible Causes:



Perform the Crankshaft Variation Relearn Procedure
 
Excessive air gap, poor reluctor machining quality or "run-out"
 
EMI or RFI "noise" on CKP sensor circuit - repeat the "relearn"
 
The CKP "relearn" procedure will not run if there are any DTC P0300 Series codes in memory - repair these codes first!
 
Engine too cold to run the procedure - allow engine to warm up

EVAP System Flow During Non-Purge

Possible Causes:



FTP sensor is out-of-calibration (skewed) or it has failed
 
Purge solenoid valve is damaged or leaking
 
Purge solenoid valve has failed (may be stuck in open position)

Engine Stall Or Near Stall Detected

Possible Causes:



Perform the Diagnostic System Check for the PCM
 
Discuss the conditions present when this trouble code set with the customer (i.e., the engine may have stalled when the clutch was released too quickly during an initial take off period).

Record any related trouble codes in memory
 
Reprogram the TCM and recheck for the same trouble code
