Removal & Installation



1.9L And 2.2L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Spark plug wires
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Fresh air hose
     
    Camshaft cover
     
    Fuel injector electrical connectors
     

  4.  
  5. Install a rocker arm removal tool J43223 to the cylinder head rail.
  6.  
  7. Position the crankshaft at Top Dead Center (TDC) with the pip marks on the camshaft sprockets at the 12 o-clock position.
  8.  
  9. Rotate the crankshaft 90 degrees past TDC and remove the following rocker arm assemblies:

    No. 1 Intake
     
    No. 2 Intake
     
    No. 1 Exhaust
     
    No. 3 Exhaust
     

  10.  
  11. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees to remove the following rocker arm assemblies:

    No. 2 Exhaust
     
    No. 4 Intake
     
    No. 3 Intake
     
    No. 4 Exhaust
     

  12.  
  13. Compress the valve springs.
  14.  
  15. Remove the rocker arm and/or valve lifters.

To install:

  1. Rotate the crankshaft 90 degrees past TDC and install the following rocker arm assemblies:

    No. 1 Intake
     
    No. 2 Intake
     
    No. 1 Exhaust
     
    No. 3 Exhaust
     

  2.  
  3. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees to install the following rocker arm assemblies:

    No. 2 Exhaust
     
    No. 4 Intake
     
    No. 3 Intake
     
    No. 4 Exhaust
     

  4.  
  5. Remove the rocker arm tool.
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Camshaft cover and torque the bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Fresh air hose
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Fuel injector electrical connectors
     
    Spark plug wires
     
    Negative battery cable
