Ignition Lock Cylinder

Removal & Installation




NOTE
If the ignition lock cylinder is replaced, the PASSLOCK relearn procedure must be performed.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lock cylinder bezel from the steering column shroud by carefully prying with a thin bladed screwdriver.

  5. Remove the shroud fasteners and remove the steering column upper and lower shroud panels.
  6.  
  7. Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder and rotate to the RUN position. Then rotate the ignition cylinder back to the ACC position.

  9. Depress the locking button on the side of ignition module assembly with a thin pick-type tool. Slide the lock cylinder assembly from the ignition module.

To install:


NOTE
The actuator blade within the ignition module housing must be in the ACC position to install the lock cylinder assembly. If rotated, replace it to the ACC position using needle nose pliers.

  1. Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder and install into the ignition module.
  2.  
  3. Install the steering column upper and lower shroud panels and the shroud fasteners.
  4.  
  5. Install the lock cylinder bezel.
  6.  
  7. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove the lock cylinder bezel from the steering column shroud by carefully prying with a thin-bladed screwdriver.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering column upper trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove wiper/washer switch.
  8.  
  9. Insert the key into the lock cylinder and rotate to START position.
    NOTE
    While rotating the cylinder back to the START position, depress the locking button on the top of the ignition module with a thin pick-type tool.

  11. Slide the lock cylinder from ignition lock cylinder case.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE
The actuator blade within the ignition module housing must be in the RUN position to install the lock cylinder assembly. If rotated, replace it to the RUN position using needle-nose pliers.

  1. Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder and install it into the ignition lock cylinder case.
  2.  
  3. Install the wiper/washer switch.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering column upper trim cover.
  6.  
  7. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disable the SIR system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering column trim covers.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position.
    NOTE
    There are two retainers on the ignition lock cylinder. Depress both retainers to remove the lock cylinder from the housing.

  9. Depress the first retainer through the lock housing access hole with a small allen wrench or similar pick-type tool. The lock cylinder will back out slightly.

  11. Depress the second retainer through the lock housing access hole. The lock cylinder will back out slightly again.
  12.  
  13. Pull the lock cylinder out enough to locate the second retainer to the lock housing access hole.
  14.  
  15. Depress the retainer though the access hole a second time. The ignition cylinder should release from the housing. If not, the ignition cylinder may need to be moved in and out several times to locate the retainer correctly in the hole.
  16.  
  17. Remove the lock cylinder from the lock housing.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Position the lock cylinder in the run position. Insert the cylinder into the lock housing.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the lock cylinder in the housing. Verify proper rotation.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering column trim covers.
  6.  
  7. Enable the SIR system.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disable the SIR system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering column trim covers.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position.
    NOTE
    There are two retainers on the ignition lock cylinder. Depress both retainers to remove the lock cylinder from the housing.

  1. Position the lock cylinder in the run position. Insert the cylinder into the lock housing.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the lock cylinder in the housing. Verify proper rotation.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering column trim covers.
  6.  
  7. Enable the SIR system.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.
