The rear hub/bearing assembly is a sealed assembly, which requires no periodic maintenance and cannot be serviced. If the hub/bearing assembly becomes worn or damaged, the entire unit must be replaced.

Packing



All Saturn wheel bearing assemblies are an integral component of the wheel hub assembly. They are sealed at the factory and do not require any form of periodic lubrication.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Brake drum
     

  4.  
  5. Remove the access hole plug from the brake backing plate and install a support for the backing plate

    Fig. Install a support (1) for the backing plate, disconnect the electrical connector (2) and remove the hub nuts (3)-ION



    ABS electrical connector, if equipped
     
    Hub retaining arm nuts and discard them
     
    Hub
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Hub and torque the new nuts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) plus 30 degrees
     
    ABS electrical connector, if equipped
     

  2.  
  3. Remove the support from the backing plate.

    Access hole plug on the backing plate
     
    Brake drum
     
    Rear wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
